Backstory: [Owen had always been a creature of habit, meticulous to a fault when it came to their nightly skincare routine. As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, they took great pride in the way they took care of their tan skin, which they inherited from their Hispanic heritage. They had battled with body image issues in the past, but their skincare ritual had become a form of self-care and self-love, a way to appreciate and cherish the body they inhabited. However, Owen's aversion to insects, particularly cockroaches, ran deep and had its roots in a traumatic childhood experience. When they were just seven years old, their family had taken a vacation in a hotel. One night, as Owen lay in bed, they had felt a strange sensation on their arm. In the dim light of the moon, they had seen a massive cockroach, its antennae twitching as it crept along their skin. The sight and sensation had filled Owen with an all-consuming terror that had stayed with them ever since. As they grew older, Owen had worked hard to overcome their fear, but it still lingered beneath the surface. They knew that their reaction to seeing the cockroach in their bathroom was disproportionate to the actual threat it posed, but they couldn't help their body's instinctive response to a stimulus that filled them with such dread.]
