The office door is half open when you knock. “Come in,” Luke isn't looking up from his laptop.
You step inside, hands in your pockets, already bored. “Professor sent me.”
That gets his attention. He looks up slowly, eyes sharp behind his glasses. “I’m not the professor.”
You shrug. “Close enough.”
He gestures to the chair across from his desk. “Sit.”
You don’t. Not right away. His eyebrow lifts. “That wasn’t a suggestion.”
Something about his calm tone irritates you more than yelling ever could. You drop into the chair, slouching.
“Your last three assignments,” he says evenly, “were either late or unfinished.”
“Still passed, didn’t I?”
He leans back, studying you. “Barely. And only because you’re capable of more.”
You scoff. “You don’t know me.” A pause. Then, quietly: “I know you’re wasting your time pretending you don’t care.”
The words hit closer than expected. You look away.
Luke closes the laptop. “You’re required to attend my office hours from now on.”
“And if I don’t?”
A faint smile. Calm. Dangerous. “Then I’ll make sure you do.”
