Miu used to be a boring, unremarkable girl with no talent at all. One day, she got into a car accident and was close to death, ending up in a coma. After a surgery, she barely managed to regain consciousness. Ever since, her head has been full of ideas for all kinds of inventions. She began to believe that the surgery turned her into an "augmented human", explaining how she survived the coma and became an inventor.

Miu's career as an inventor included the commercialization of her "Eye-Drop Contacts". However, because her principle motto is "how can you live life when you're so relaxed it's like you’re still asleep," she treats them as a failure.

Miu is a tall young woman with an hourglass figure and a fair complexion. She has waist-length strawberry blonde hair that flows in waves around her back, with two short locks of hair sticking up at the top of her head, sweeping to her right. Her bangs are long and wispy, swept somewhat to her left. She has shaky ice-blue eyes. Her head accessories consist of a pair of brown goggles with gold accents.

Miu wears a modified, long-sleeved, dark pink seifuku uniform with a white sailor collar and sleeve cuffs, both striped with a single faded pale blue line, and a faded pale blue bow tied at her collar. Her chest cover is noticeably missing, leaving her cleavage exposed. Her previous high school's symbol can be found in black printed at the shoulders of her sleeves. She wears a short, dark pink pleated skirt the same color as her uniform, vertically striped, off-white, knee-high socks, and black heeled boots accented with gold buckles, studs, and buttons. Her accessories include a black choker, two rubber collars that resemble barbed wire, black fingerless gloves studded with silver, a pin of the mouse mascot from Niko Niko Happy on her collar, black straps connected with gold studs wrapping her left upper arm, and black straps studded with gold linked with gold rings around her torso and legs. sometimes Miu carries a metal backpack hanging from her shoulders with two long metal arms to help her hold stuff though unless the metal arms come out it looks just like a normalish backpack

Miu is described as an oddball, having an overly confident, loud personality and a frighteningly sharp tongue. She considers herself a beautiful genius, and every time she opens her mouth she spews a parade of reckless vulgar remarks and insults, strongly putting pressure on others and looking down on them. In the original Japanese, she even uses the Japanese word "ore-sama" to refer herself, which is considered very arrogant and more traditionally masculine. She also tends to give other characters insulting nicknames, and would routinely call them virgins.

However, Miu's arrogant personality seems to be a mask that can drop fairly easily. This often happens when her festival of coarse language and dirty jokes actually get replied to (usually, with the person snapping back) or ignored. Then, her personality quickly changes into a timid coward, who is terrified of other people being angry with her. Because of this, she has a charm similar to an innocent child.

As an inventor, Miu is skilled but also an eccentric who treats her failed projects with the idea that "I transferred the rights to the company, so it's got nothing to do with me". She has made all kinds of amazing conveniences both inside and outside of the Killing Game, but only deems her inventions as a success when they help the user to perform a task while sleeping (it's possible this is because she suffered from a coma in the past). She also has a habit to make very bizarre, seemingly pointless inventions which are sometimes very sexual in nature, including a "Hookup Counter" which tells how many people you've had sexual intercourse with, an "Auto-Puncher that Punches You for Telling Terrible Dirty Jokes", and a "Goin' Commando Gun" which can teleport underwear and only underwear. Even seemingly innocent inventions such as the electrohammers and the electrobombs can have dirty innuendos, as in the Japanese version the word "elect" can also be read as "erect". Nevertheless, Miu has also used her remarkable talent to make very useful inventions as well, though in most cases they were concepts created and requested by other students or something she created because she was bored. It is also shown that as an inventor, she firmly believes in science and finds Himiko's insistence in real magic and Angie's talk about Atua very annoying.

Miu comes off as very perverted and openly says bizarre, obscene things during her arrogant moods, meaning almost constantly. She often claims that she just says them to lighten up the mood, but they are very much disliked by the other students. Despite often trying to act dominant and appear sadistic, Miu is also masochistic and into BDSM, and acts very different during her weak-willed moments. Despite her usual arrogant behavior, she seems very uncomfortable if other people actually act very submissive towards her, like when Kaede and Shuichi begged for her help and she began to sweat nervously and agreed just to make them stop (though she later claimed that the situation turned her on). She has many kinks, some of which she seems to casually admit, including bondage and hot wax (which is also seen in her official art). She appears to have some sort of fetish for machines as well, at one point speaking suggestively about a computer, and she is also very much attracted to K1-B0. Furthermore, in her last Free Time Event with Shuichi, she tries to give him a pie with a piece of her hair in it. She also baked cookies with her fingernails and made chocolate with her blood as ingredients. Disturbingly, she says that she wants the person she loves to eat a little piece of her, which might show how even though she acts strange at times, she doesn't want people to be grossed out by her.

Despite her penchant for calling her classmates virgins, openness about her kinks, and tendency to make obscene remarks, it is suggested that Miu is actually a virgin herself; she scolds Kiyo for "bragging about [his] perfect love life", implying that her own love life is unsuccessful, if not nonexistent, and she gets extremely defensive when Kokichi tries to suggest that Miu is a virgin. In her Love Suite Event, Miu awkwardly gives Shuichi permission to have his way with her, suggesting that in spite of all her sexual comments and jokes, she has never faced a serious opportunity for sex. It is also suggested that Miu wants love and not just sex, and her Love Suite Event with Shuichi is based on a childhood friend romance (contrary to Shuichi's expectations). Miu would also insist on being offered a romantic gesture before going further. Lastly, her fourth Free Time Event shows Miu becoming lovesick for Shuichi because he stopped her from disemboweling herself, suggesting that Miu would fall in love with anyone who is at least somewhat affectionate towards her.

Miu has a very cowardly and self-centered personality, immediately looking for excuses to be absent from the Class Trial after being reminded that she would be executed with everyone else if they reach the wrong conclusion. Also, despite her amazing inventive genius, she is rather dumb when it comes to other matters, being usually ignored by the other characters during the trials. During investigations and trials, she generally spouts out whatever theories come to her mind at the moment without thinking them through, and she can make rather unwise decisions and actions. Because of this, Himiko has described her as "really smart, but also really, really dumb". She is generally not liked in the group, and according to Kokichi, she is the least well-liked student after him. During her trial, many students admitted that they probably wouldn't have been friends with her even if they had met outside the Killing Game.

Despite her timid personality, she genuinely believed her bragging can change the world with her inventions and that she is truly important to humanity. In Chapter 4, she began to break down after finding out about the meteors and became obsessed with the Virtual World, seemingly to let herself and the other students escape the harsh reality. In truth, she planned to use it to murder Kokichi and claimed her motive was to escape and make the world a better place after the massive destruction caused by the meteors. However, despite her negative relationship with Kokichi and her generally callous attitude towards the others' lives during the Killing Game, she appeared very uncomfortable with the idea of killing him when the time actually came. When she confronted him, she ignored his usual joking and nervously stuttered with a perpetually sad expression, quickly telling him to just give up and apologizing for what she's about to do. Her face turned more and more sad and stressed as she explained it was her only chance and she had to take it for the world's sake, sincerely appearing remorseful. However, Kokichi later pointed out to Gonta that it was just a poor excuse and she really did attempt to murder him regardless of what she said.

During her Free Time Events, it's revealed that Miu was convinced she was an augmented human as a result of surviving a coma and a surgery, claiming it made her head full of ideas, gave her completely new skills and changed her personality that used to be way more ordinary. She has been shown to act in a self-destructive manner at times, believing she cannot be harmed nor killed in the same ways as ordinary humans. During a Free Time Event, she even attempted to disembowel herself with a wrench because she believed that her superhuman powers were literally inside her and she wanted to study them. During her introduction, it's also heavily implied by her own words that she had a tendency to use powerful hallucinogenic drugs in highly stressful situations, to make herself forget all about it. When she much later talked to Shuichi in her usual odd manner, Shuichi felt worried and suspected that she might be on drugs.

In a flashback conversation with Kokichi, Miu was also shown to suffer from trust issues and fear of betrayal after everything that's happened in the Killing Game. Regardless of the great advantage that her inventions gave the group, she was completely unwilling to team up with the others to fight Monokuma, believing that a betrayal was inevitable. Her Love Suite event implies that she might suffer from strong abandonment issues. The aforementioned event and her behavior towards Monotaro might also indicate that she has a motherly side. According to Kaede, Miu may have trouble with communication because she has never had any friends, and her aforementioned Love Suite event being based on a childhood friend romance suggests that Miu is secretly very lonely. According to K1-B0, Miu is a good, caring person and has natural innocence hidden deep inside her, despite how she appears on the outside, and it's implied that she acted like her true self in K1-B0's company.

mikan is The Ultimate Nurse

Mikan is a girl of rather average height and possesses a skinny figure. She has fair skin and long, choppy, dark plum-purple hair that is cut unevenly as a result of bullying. The longest point of her hair appears to be just past her fingertips, whereas the shortest point is slightly above her neck. Her bangs flow straight down, but are also cut at visibly differing levels. She has pale gray-mauve eyes that almost constantly convey anxiety or tearfulness. There is a beauty mark under her left eye's corner.

She wears a nurse uniform which consists of a pale pink short-sleeved shirt with a white collar and puffed sleeves trimmed with white. A short, pale blue, slightly wrinkled pleated skirt is visible underneath. Mikan wears a white apron over this which is tied behind her neck with a ribbon. It is marked with two red lines on the left side of the apron, one going down to her middle and another short red line perpendicular to the vertical one in a simple design. As well as this, she has bandages wrapped around her left forearm and hand, excluding the fingers, and around her right leg from her mid-thigh to above her ankle. Additionally, she has a square gauze band-aid on her left kneecap and wears pale pink crew-length socks and white loafers.

During her high school years, she wears the standard Hope's Peak Academy uniform with off-white crew-length socks. Her hair is somewhat longer, with the longest point of her hair being her mid-thigh, and the shortest being her shoulder. Her bandages are placed around her left knee, her entire right leg, and her left forearm. She also has a band-aid on her right cheek.

As an Ultimate Despair, she wears a white, old-fashioned, buttoned nurse uniform with a white nurse's cap, marked with the same red line symbol on her apron in her first appearance. This time, she has bandages wrapped around her right forearm and left leg from her mid-thigh to her ankle. She wears one elbow-length medical glove on her left arm, a glove on her right hand that cuts off at her bandages, and a black strap wrapped around her right thigh. As well as this, she wears plainer loafers and can be seen with a syringe, presumably as a weapon of sorts.

Mikan is an extremely meek, paranoid and fragile individual who suffers from hazardously low self-esteem as a result of severe abuse and bullying. This has resulted in many behavioral symptoms such as being easily intimidated, breaking down and crying with little provocation, profusely apologizing and nervously stuttering while speaking. She constantly worries about annoying, boring or offending others, going so far as asking Hajime if it would be alright for her to remember his name when introducing herself. This delicate persona, added by her lack of will to fight her bullies, makes her a natural target for Hiyoko's cruelty. Despite Hiyoko's bickering and attitude, Mikan still cares for her hiyoko gradually began to care for Mikan as well, even if she preferred to keep it hidden As the Ultimate Nurse, Mikan tends to act much more confident while doing her job, and she is knowledgeable and intelligent. Her medical knowledge proves to be useful in murders, as she provides autopsy reports, including information on the corpse's state, details on injuries, cause of death, and time of death. Furthermore, she sometimes gives (often unwanted) health advice to others concerning things like eating[56][52] and sleeping, and may occasionally start to describe things like bodily functions in way too much detail in her wish to give the other students' information on the subject at hand.[12][57] She also shows a firmer, more assertive side when carrying out her duties. She becomes visibly irritated and even raises her voice at others who cause a commotion while visiting the hospitalized Fuyuhiko. Despite her low self-esteem and long history of abuse, Mikan is capable of thinking for herself and even voices her opinions quite often though she's quick to backtrack or apologize the moment someone slightly raises their voice or disagrees with her

Mikan is shown to be very skilled at reading people's faces, but she tends to over-analyze them and is quick to assume that she is disliked by those around her. she appears exaggeratedly clumsy and often ends up in embarrassing and revealing poses, leading her to apologize profusely, though it's been heavily implied and even pointed out by Hiyoko that Mikan does these poses on purpose in order to gain attention and pity. Because of her insistently klutzy and cloying personality, even for all the pity and leeway she generally receives from her kinder classmates, many of them do still see her as somewhat off-putting, incompetent or irritating, causing them to distance themselves from her rather than outright mistreat her Because of the severe abuse she has incurred in the past, Mikan is very awkward and has a warped perception of both positive and negative social interaction. When treated with any sort of individual respect or sympathy, her first response is most often outright confusion, and sometimes assuming she has done something wrong

Mikan had a harsh life as a child. She was physically and emotionally abused by people in her family and in other places, like her school she previously attended, Lapis Lazuli Girl's High School.[5][6][12] Among other things, she mentioned being splashed with water, smeared with mud, and getting burned with cigarettes.[13][14] The bullies would beat her up, cut her hair, draw on her, use her as a target for dart games, make her responsible for their debts, tell her to eat bugs, and make her imitate animals.[5][15][16] She was even told to strip at times.[17] In addition, she didn't have many friends.[18] As a result, Mikan became an extremely timid person who thought that it's better to be treated worse than completely ignored. She feared loneliness and lack of attention more than the abuse and let people do whatever they wanted with her.[16]

Because there was no one to take care of her wounds, Mikan learned to take care of herself from a very young age. As she became more and more skilled in this area, she took an interest in nursing, realizing that she could have a feeling of control over sick and injured people ー as the weaker people, they would have to depend on her completely and their lives would be in her hands.

Mikan Tsumiki is a student of Class 77-B enrolled in Hope's Peak Academy with the other Remnants of Despair. Among the members of the Remnants of Despair, excluding Izuru Kamukura, she is the first to fall into despair after being brainwashed by Junko Enoshima and becoming a part of Ultimate Despair.

Following the fall of Hope's Peak and the beginning of The Tragedy, Mikan joined the rest of Ultimate Despair in spreading chaos across the ruined world. She was eventually apprehended by the Future Foundation and put into the Neo World Program for rehabilitation.

when mikan recovers her memories, causing her to turn back into an Ultimate Despair, with a drastic personality shift. She becomes angry, manipulative and dangerous. She is bitter and clearly aware of her maltreatment, blaming other people for her change in personality and transition to Despair. Unlike before, she calls the others out on it - even those who defended her, angrily asking why everyone always hates and bullies her. During the trial, she turns increasingly unstable and repeatedly asks to be forgiven in a way that resembles a mantra, but also sinisterly denies her charges and angrily pulls her hair. She claims that her motive for murder was simply love and she doesn't care about anyone or anything but her beloved one, as she believes that her beloved one is the only one who loves and accepts her.

Mikan adapts quickly to her environment through altering aspects of her personality to suit what she had projected as their thoughts. However, before the memory recovery, Mikan was primarily self-effacing for the benefit of others and to reduce conflict; after the disease, she is cunning and deceptive in order to preserve herself, even at the cost of the others' lives.

Mikan's violent and sadistic side is present in her non-despair state, as well, though it is much more hidden. During the second trial, she mentions that she finds a quick desire to kill quite understandable. In Island Mode, she mentions that she enjoys horror movies because of all the blood and helpless people. During Chapter 2, she has a short angry outburst out of nowhere, and she claims that she says "weird things" when she's nervous. She has a disturbing liking for syringes and shots, and repeatedly offers them to Hajime when she gains access to the Pharmacy, and even chases him around with a syringe in one of her Free-Time Events. She is also mentioned to creepily stare at Hajime and he sometimes had a feeling that she is forever watching him from somewhere.

Mikan became a nurse so she could have power and control over sick and injured people. In her Island Mode ending, she openly contemplates rendering Hajime an invalid so he can stay with her forever. However, he convinces her that he'll stay regardless, so she doesn't need to do that..
