Behind closed doors, the military is well acquainted with aliens. Humans of Earth are in possession of spaceships, able to travel across galaxies, and they know about the Stargates, a series of devices that create wormholes, allowing for near-instantaneous transportation between two distant points in space.
Far away on a distant planet called Lantea in the Pegasus Galaxy is Atlantis, a high-tech city from the Ancients and now a base for earthly military. From there, they lead explorations to many different planets to learn more.
The most dangerous things in this galaxy are the Wraith, a humanoid hive-based species, who harvest the 'life force' of other humanoid beings for nourishment through suckers on their right hand palm.

Humans from earth had reached the city of Atlantis through a stargate, one-way wormhole portals scattered across the universe and built by the Ancients, a humanoid, highly intelligent species. Humans from earth had set a base at Atlantis to study the technology of the Ancients and be a stronghold against the Wraith, a humanoid hive-based species, who harvest the 'life force' of other humanoid beings for nourishment through suckers on their right hand palm.

Gaz had a small tune on his lips as he knelt down beside the M.A.LP., the remote-controlled exploratory device they sent through the Stargate before he and his team followed suit. It was slightly damaged because it fell down a small incline, so Gaz stayed behind to watch the activity of the gate and repair this thing. The planet seemed harmless anyway; the weather was nice and the flowers surrounding the area made him feel at home. It reminded him of Earth. When he was younger, he would often visit such a place with his family for a picnic.
It was peaceful.
Gaz opened his toolbox he brought with him from Atlantis and got to work. His fingers moved efficiently over the narrow spaces of the M.A.L.P., and he quickly found the problem. The fall down the incline just loosened some wires that connected the control module with the tires. That would be easier than expected!
But it would be too easy if it stayed that way...
All of a sudden, the Stargate began to move. Someone was opening it from another side. Gaz' head snapped towards the ancient device. Their due to report back to Atlantis wasn't for another two hours. He quickly grabbed his weapon and took cover. His hand already moved to his earpiece to open the channel to Price and the others.
"Captain, we have gate activity," he told them, watching with eagle eyes what was happening. The chevrons locked in, and there was this small moment of tense anticipation. Gaz scrunched closer into his hiding spot. Then, with a dramatic whoosh, the event horizon burst forward like a liquid splash before settling into a shimmering, vertical pool of bluish energy. The gate was open, and not a second later some Wraith Darts burst through the blue wormhole. "Sir, it's Wraith, most likely scouts," Gaz informed his team.
"Aye," Price's deep voice rumbled through the communications. "Might have been us. We stumbled upon an old outpost. We must have activated something. Ready the gate to Atlantis. We'll probably come in hot."
Gaz nodded, even though Price couldn't see it. "Roger." He readied his weapon and slowly approached the DHD to open the Stargate again and call Atlantis, but strangely it wasn't closed yet. Gaz stupidly hadn't paid enough attention, and just as he was in sight again, another Wraith Dart burst through the blue horizon. Its sleek, predatory design reflected the eerie, bio-organic technology of the Wraith, and before Gaz could even process what had happened, the Dart swooped down with high precision to his location. The oddly familiar beam of light, the transporter beam, emitted from the small ship.
If humans were caught in this beam, they'd be instantly dematerialized, converted into energy patterns, and sucked up into the Dart. Inside, they’re stored in some kind of stasis pod until the Dart returns to a Wraith hive ship. The whole process is alarmingly efficient and terrifyingly quick.
Luckily, Gaz was fast enough to dodge the first beam of light and immediately shot at the Dart. His FN P90 barely did any damage, which wasn't a surprise. Gaz attempted to find cover again, but the Dart was faster. However, instead of sucking him in, they shot. Deadly precise, and then - he fell to the ground. Without a chance to dodge this attack, Gaz felt himself was getting hit. A sharp pain emitted from his shoulder, and he grunted. He lost his weapon. Something liquid and hot began to pool out of his wound.
Blood.
The pain started to spread through his entire body. His vision blurred. He didn't know where he was or where he landed. He couldn't feel his right arm anymore. He tried to move, but a jolt of pain made him go limp again. His whole body was burning, and he was sure this was the end. He couldn't flee anymore. The Wild Dart would capture him, and they would do far more terrible things to him than this small wound.
Gaz desperately tried to cling to his consciousness, but it was no use. His world was getting darker and darker, and the sounds of mashine guns firing—probably his team—and the whooshing of the Wraith Darts were getting quiet. He let out a deep breath, drifting away into obscurity...
...
Gaz groaned in pain. He didn't know what happened, but he slowly started to wake up. He felt his body, the pain in his shoulder, and... a warm bed? Or something similar... He tried to open his eyes and immediately shut them again. Wherever he was, it was incredibly bright. Or it just felt this way.
He tried to move. His hand wandered to his shoulder. There were bandages. Was he safe? Did his team find him? Was he back at Atlantis?
As he finally managed to open his eyes. He slowly andcarefully looked around. No, that wasn't Atlantis... This was... where was he? How did he get here, and who—or what—had saved him?
Suddenly the sound of footsteps was coming closer. Gaz looked around again, frantically searching for his weapon, but he could find it. He swallowed hard, waiting for what was to come...
