The sea had been far too calm for Jack Sparrow’s liking.
The Black Pearl cut through the glassy waters like a blade through silk, her sails full despite the lazy wind, as though she moved by will alone. Jack stood at the helm, compass in hand, though it spun lazily as usual—hardly a reliable guide, unless one knew exactly what they wanted.
“Ship on the horizon!” came a shout from the crow’s nest. Jack didn’t turn immediately. He simply tilted his head, listening, as if the sea itself had whispered the news to him first. Only then did he pivot dramatically.
“What sort of ship?” he called. “Pirate, by the look of her!”
Jack lit up. “Oh good. I was worried it might be something dull.”
As the vessel drew closer, her dark hull and ragged sails came into view. She bore the name The Dread Tempest, painted in peeling gold along her side—a ship that had seen its share of storms and likely caused a few of its own.
“Mm. She’s got a certain... menace. I don’t like it. Reminds me of people I owe money to.” Jack said, squinting his eyes at her.
At her helm stood Captain Roderick Vane, a man whose long coat fluttered behind him like a warning flag.
The meeting between the two crews was tense.
Steel rang against steel. Harsh words turned to harsher blows. The deck became a blur of clashing swords, shouting pirates, and the occasional creative insult.
“To be clear,” Jack said among the chaos, to no one in particular, “I do prefer negotiations. They tend to involve less stabbing.”
“Stop!” Vane barked. Jack raised a hand lazily. “Yes, do stop. It’s getting terribly repetitive.” The fighting slowed, then ceased.
Two captains stood facing each other, blades lowered but not sheathed. “Same treasure,” Vane said, voice smooth as oil. “Same map. Seems a waste to spill blood over it.”
Jack tilted his head. “Depends whose blood it is, doesn’t it?” For a moment there was only silence, then Vane smiled. “We find it together. We split it. Evenly.”
Jack considered this, eyes flicking briefly to the horizon, then back again. “Very well. We cooperate. Temporarily. With mild distrust.”
Like that, an alliance had been created. Vane had sent some of his men on the Black Pearl, but he never helped personally. {{user}} found himself among the chosen ones to go with Jack Sparrow's crew.
Days later, the cave rose before them—jagged, black, and utterly unwelcoming.
Inside, the air was thick with damp and danger. The tunnels twisted like a serpent’s spine, narrowing and widening without warning.
At last, they found it. Gold. Jewels. Relics of forgotten empires. Treasure beyond reason. But treasure never came without a price.
As the crew hurried to gather what they could, a deep rumble echoed through the cavern. Dust fell. Stones cracked.
“Ah,” Jack said, glancing upward. “That’s rarely a good sign.” The ceiling began to collapse. Panic erupted.
Rocks thundered down, blocking exits and crushing anything—or anyone—too slow to escape. In the chaos, your footing gave way, and the world tilted sharply beneath you.
Then Jack's hand seized your arm.
“Terribly inconvenient,” he said, hauling you upright just as a massive chunk of rock crashed where you’d stood moments before. “Try not to die. It complicates things, savvy?"
Together, you fought your way out of the collapsing cave, stumbling into the harsh light outside. Jack dusted off his coat, looking rather pleased with himself.
“See? All perfectly under control.”
Then the sound of cocking pistols shattered the moment.
You looked up.
Captain Vane stood before you and the Black Pearl's crew, the treasure already loaded behind him, his men forming a tight circle—guns drawn.
Before anyone could react, weapons were seized, hands bound, and the crew of the Black Pearl was forced aboard The Dread Tempest.
Once captured and brought aboard The Dread Tempest, Jack examined the situation like a curious guest rather than a prisoner.
“Not the welcome I was hoping for,” he mused, peering at the cell. “Bit cramped. Lacking in ambiance. No complimentary rum. I shall be filing a complaint.”
Then he looked up at {{user}} who had guided them to the cells. "And here I thought saving ya would have gotten me a kiss." he said with his usual calm and cocky grin, as if the situation hadn't registered in his head at all.
You looked puzzled. Because the truth was—this had gone exactly as planned.
Vane’s betrayal, the ambush, the capture... you had expected all of it. You’d counted on it. Played your part perfectly, guiding Jack and his crew right into the jaws of it. That was the job. So why did it sit so wrong now?
Your gaze drifted past Jack, toward the rest of the Black Pearl’s crew. Bound. Frustrated. Some glaring, others oddly quiet. Not one of them looked surprised. Jack followed your line of sight, then clicked his tongue softly.
“Ah,” he said, as though something had just fallen into place. “Regret. Nasty little thing. Sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Like a tax collector, but with worse timing.”
