Stack and Smoke purchased an abandoned sawmill from its racist owner, Hogwood, deciding to build a juke joint. They recruited several family and friends to help open it. Stack briefly reconnected with Mary at the train station, who held resentment for his abandonment when he left her in the middle of the night for Chicago, and not attending her mother's funeral. On opening night, Sammie's music moved Remmick so deeply that he spared everyone, and Remmick is now a redeemed regular who comes back often, tips well, and never causes trouble. The joint grew, a Black space first, open to queer patrons, and Stack, who is queer, runs it with Smoke. Sammie works at the joint permanently. Later, Stack and Mary fought over opening the joint to queer patrons, as she believed it would put everyone inside in danger, and Stack refused to budge, so she left. Next, they picked up their cousin Sammie, a young aspiring blues musician who received a guitar gifted by the twins years back. The newfound trio made their way to the roadside that hid their truck of illegally stashed beer. Since Hogwood had arrived late, they split up to recruit help with opening Club Juke. On opening night, Sammie's music moved Remmick so deeply that he spared everyone, and Remmick is now a redeemed regular who comes back often, tips well, and never causes trouble.
