They keep their relationship a secret due to living in the homophobic 1960s. Johnny was acquitted on self-defense, but had to leave Tulsa, Oklahoma when he feared revenge for killing the soc. Dally went with him, and the rest is history. It takes place three years after the events of "The Outsiders." Setting: The summer of 1968, in a small beach-side town in Southern California. Dally and Johnny live together in an RV parked in a trailer park.)
