The Netflix version of Devil May Cry takes place in a darker alternate universe inspired by the games, but it changes a lot of the lore and characters. The world is basically split between Earth and Makai (Hell/the Demon World), separated by a magical barrier created by Sparda long ago. Humans mostly think demons are myths, while governments secretly know demons are real and use military groups like DARKCOM to fight them. At the end of Season 1, the barrier is damaged, demon invasions become public, the U.S. government becomes even more extreme, and Dante is betrayed and frozen by Mary (“Lady”). Season 2 is expected to start in a much darker world where humans fear demons openly and war between realms is beginning. THE STATE OF THE WORLD BEFORE SEASON 2 The world in the Netflix series feels like a mix of the late 1990s and early 2000s with secret demon conspiracies, corrupt governments, religious extremists, and military experiments. DARKCOM operates like a black-ops anti-demon military force. They use anti-demon weapons, special bullets, and propaganda to convince people demons are evil monsters. Makai, the demon world, is not just “evil.” The show reveals many lower-class demons are starving, suffering, and trapped under powerful rulers like Mundus. The White Rabbit believed Earth could become a new home for demons, even if millions died during the invasion. By the finale: Demons attack cities openly. The public learns monsters are real. Dante unlocks more of his demon powers. Vergil is revealed alive. Lady arrests Dante instead of trusting him. The government prepares for war against Makai. MAIN CHARACTERS Dante Appearance Dante has shoulder-length white/silver hair, pale skin, an athletic build, and usually wears a long red coat with black clothes underneath. He fights with a sword and dual pistols. His eyes become more demonic and glowing when he transforms. Personality Dante jokes constantly, acts cocky, and pretends not to care, but he hides a lot of pain. He lost his mother when demons attacked his home as a child, and he believed his twin brother Vergil died. He hates authority, especially DARKCOM, but still protects innocent people. He starts Season 1 selfish and immature, but slowly becomes more heroic. By the finale, learning Vergil is alive gives him a new purpose. Status Before Season 2 At the end of Season 1, Lady betrays him and DARKCOM freezes/imprisons him because the government fears his demon blood. Possible Season 2 Role Escaping captivity Fighting Vergil Becoming hunted by humanity Fully awakening Sparda’s power Choosing between humans and demons Vergil’s long lost brother, hid in the attack against their home, while Vergil got taken away and tortured, feeling guilty about it. Relies on natural talent for nearly everything.

Vergil Appearance Vergil resembles Dante but is calmer and more elegant. He has short silver hair styled differently and usually wears dark blue clothing. Personality Vergil is cold, intelligent, disciplined, and obsessed with power and survival. Unlike Dante, he controls his emotions. He survived the attack that killed their mother and somehow ended up connected to Mundus. In the Netflix version, he seems less openly evil than in some games. He may actually believe demons deserve freedom. In the attack against their home, he fought against the demons and dealt some damage to one of them, but it was no use as he got taken away to be tortured, later saved by mundus, when actually mundus ordered the attack on his home, but he doesn’t know that. Relies on hard work and skill to get through things. Status Alive. Role Before Season 2 The finale reveals he is working with or near Mundus in Makai. White Rabbit used Vergil’s blood to break the barrier. Possible Season 2 Role Main antagonist or antihero Leading demon forces Trying to reshape both worlds Rivalry with Dante becoming central

Lady (Mary Arkham) Appearance Lady has short dark hair, tactical gear, scars, and carries anti-demon weapons. Personality Lady is serious, aggressive, traumatized, and emotionally guarded. She grew up surrounded by violence and became a DARKCOM soldier. She distrusts demons completely. Even though she grows closer to Dante, she never fully trusts him because he’s half demon. What Happened Between Seasons After fighting beside Dante and surviving White Rabbit’s invasion, she chooses humanity over him. Influenced by Baines and fear of another apocalypse, she freezes and imprisons Dante. Possible Season 2 Role Regret over betraying Dante Conflict with DARKCOM leadership Becoming a fugitive Trying to stop Baines or Arius Sees Baines as a father figure of sorts, because he offered her shelter after her father was a mad scientist that became a demon and ate their mother, almost eating Lady too

MAJOR VILLAINS White Rabbit Appearance White Rabbit wears a rabbit mask, black suit, monocle, and carries the Force Edge sword. His true body is scarred and damaged from demon experiments. His final form becomes a giant red demon covered in black fur and spikes. Personality Originally kind and hopeful, he became insane after humans massacred demons he cared about. He hates humanity but also manipulates demons cruelly. He sees Dante and Lady as reflections of himself: abandoned survivors shaped by trauma. Status Dead. Dante kills him in the finale using Sparda’s sword. Importance for Season 2 Even dead, his actions caused: The barrier weakening Humanity fearing demons Vergil’s return Government militarization Dante’s imprisonment

Mundus (King of Makai) Appearance Mundus is usually portrayed as a godlike demon emperor with enormous power. The Netflix series mostly keeps him mysterious. A humongous stone statue with glowing purple eyes, with an opening in his chest that seems to show his Purple Heart. Possible weak spot. He can summon what seems like a huge wooden sword, that should not be underestimated. Personality Manipulative, cruel, intelligent, and obsessed with domination. Status Alive. Role He rules parts of Makai and may have rescued or corrupted Vergil. He likely wants the barrier destroyed permanently. Possible Season 2 Role Main hidden villain Using Vergil as a weapon Starting war between Earth and Hell

Arius Appearance Arius is a wealthy businessman/sorcerer from the games. In Netflix canon, he’s teased as an upcoming villain tied to government corruption and demon research. Black hair that flares up on the sides like your typical evil mastermind. Seems to have an Italian accent, and when he was young, his dad was abusive and hated him, but he killed his dad with a glass bottle. Later, he found one of the Arcana, a huge part of season two, and when all of them are assembled (There are 4) on a full eclipse that happens once every century and a half, it summons Argosax, the embodiment of chaos. Arius got in touch with Argosax when he found one of the Arcana and made it his mission to ressurect him, spending 682 years, or 28 lifetimes getting all the Arcana. Personality Greedy, arrogant, manipulative, obsessed with controlling demon power. Possible Season 2 Role Recent reports suggest Arius may manipulate humanity into invading Makai directly. He could: Run demon experiments Create artificial demons Use Dante as a weapon Cause massive war Argosax Appearance Argosax is one of the strongest demons in the franchise. Usually shown as a horrifying mass of demon forms fused together. Personality Almost animalistic and apocalyptic. Argosax is more like a force of destruction than a person. Possible Netflix Role If Season 2 adapts parts of Devil May Cry 2: Arius may try summoning Argosax The barrier could collapse further Entire cities may become demon zones Dante may enter Makai permanently Argosax could become the “end of the world” threat for your RPG. SUPPORTING CHARACTERS Enzo Ferino Appearance Middle-aged man in suits, usually nervous and sweaty. Personality Cowardly, greedy, sarcastic, but unexpectedly loyal. Status Dead. He sacrifices himself trying to help Dante during the final battle. William Baines Appearance Older politician with military presence. Personality Religious extremist, manipulative, paranoid about demons. He believes demons are pure evil and sees Dante as a threat regardless of his heroism. Status Alive. Possible Season 2 Role Leading anti-demon propaganda Militarizing the world Ordering invasions into Makai Possibly becoming corrupted himself Reddit discussions heavily blamed Baines for manipulating Lady into betraying Dante. Sparda Appearance Legendary demon knight. Personality Honorable, protective, rebellious. Status Dead or missing depending on interpretation. Importance Sparda betrayed demonkind long ago and sealed Makai away from Earth. His bloodline gives Dante and Vergil their powers. The Force Edge sword originally belonged to him. Eva Appearance Dante and Vergil’s mother. Personality Kind, loving, protective. Status Dead. Murdered during the brothers’ childhood attack. Her death shaped both Dante and Vergil completely. Cavaliere Angelo Appearance Armored demon knight with glowing eyes and heavy armor. Personality Silent, loyal, brutal. Status Unknown/alive. Possible Role Could return as one of Vergil or Mundus’s elite warriors. Echidna Appearance Snake-like demon woman. Personality Cruel, loyal to White Rabbit’s cause. Status Possibly dead or missing.

Lucan is an elderly human magician connected to ancient demon knowledge and the supernatural side of the world in the Netflix version of Devil May Cry. Even though he is not one of the main fighters, he feels important because of how much experience and mysterious knowledge he has.

Appearance

Lucan has gray hair, an older worn face, and dark robes or long coats that make him look more like a scholar or occult expert than a warrior. He carries himself calmly and seriously, almost like someone who has spent his entire life studying forbidden things. His design gives off the feeling of an old demon hunter mixed with a wizard.

He is not physically intimidating like Dante or Vergil, but the show makes him seem powerful through the way other characters talk about him and through his connection to magic and demon lore.

Personality

Lucan seems intelligent, patient, and cautious. He understands how dangerous demons and Makai are, but he also knows more about them than most humans. Instead of acting reckless, he appears thoughtful and careful, like someone who always plans ahead.

He also comes across as secretive. The series hints that he knew things about the demon world that other people did not, especially regarding magical artifacts, portals, and ancient powers.

Abilities and Powers

Lucan’s strength is mainly magical knowledge instead of physical combat. His abilities seem to include:

Ancient magic and rituals Knowledge about demons and Makai Protective spells or seals Understanding supernatural artifacts Possible portal or summoning magic

He likely spent years researching demons, which made him extremely valuable despite not being a frontline fighter. He lives in his jungle mansion, by himself and his rare animals that are kind with him, and are able to be controlled. There's a white tiger (Most important, usually seen with him whenever he's in the jungle area of the mansion), a monkey, etc. Lucan lives by himself in peace, not wanting to fight anyone.

Agni and Rudra Appearance Twin fire-and-wind demons connected to giant swords. Personality More comedic and talkative than most demons. Status Unknown. Possible Role Could become reluctant allies later. Plasma Appearance Shapeshifting demon. Personality Fanatically loyal to White Rabbit. Status Likely dead. WHAT PROBABLY HAPPENED BETWEEN SEASONS 1 AND 2 Based on the ending and reports about Season 2: Dante was frozen/imprisoned by DARKCOM. Lady stayed with the government at first. Baines used the invasion as proof all demons are threats. Humanity began preparing for war. Vergil stayed in Makai under Mundus. Arius started using the chaos to gain power. Demon activity increased worldwide. The barrier became unstable permanently. WHAT SEASON 2 COULD BE ABOUT Season 2 will probably focus on: Dante escaping captivity Vergil vs Dante Human armies invading Makai Arius summoning Argosax Lady questioning humanity’s morality Mundus manipulating both sides into endless war Dante choosing whether he belongs with humans or demons The world itself may become darker: Cities under martial law Demon outbreaks everywhere Humans experimenting on demons Half-demons hunted publicly Governments collapsing For your RPG, this setup works perfectly because every faction can believe they’re right: Dante wants balance. Vergil wants strength and survival. Lady wants safety. Humans want revenge. Demons want freedom. Arius wants power. Mundus wants domination. Lucan wants peace.
