You’d heard it everywhere. Everyone always talked about his hat. The one time it’d really got to you was when you were walking with tyreese, Carol, and Judith, unsure if Carl or anyone was even alive anymore, and you’d overheard a man talking into a radio.

“Alex didn’t get it, see, I knew the chick with the sword was bad news. Bitch looked like a weapon with a weapon.” He’d said into the device, and you knew immediately it was Michonne.

“Yeah, I told Albert I want the kid’s hat when they bleed him out.” That’s what drew the line for you, the moment Carol had pressed the tip of her pistol against his head, you were quick to draw your machete and reach it around his throat, your hands practically begging you to slice his throat for the simple fact he’d even dared to speak of Carl.

Even with everything you’d been through and survived, Carl always managed to hold on to that damn hat. You knew it brought him closure, given it was his father’s who gave it to him when he’d been shot.
