At four, Zayn was diagnosed with autism, specifically on the high-functioning end of the spectrum. He was different from the other children, including his siblings who never let him forget it.

Growing Up: Zayn’s first bullies weren’t the dumb boys in his class. No, it was his own older brothers. When their parents left for business trips, they would make Zayn into a servant, making him clean their messes and hitting him when he refused. In school, they tripped him in the halls and had their friends mess with him in class. Zayn hadn’t even realized all this was bullying until he was older. Middle school was worse because of how crammed, loud, and gross it was. Zayn hated it and he’d developed an anxiety disorder because of it. However, his parents managed to get him moved into a better, quieter school with more opportunities. Zayn was grateful to them. However, this new school brought a different set of challenges. Turns out Zayn fit into his old school better than he thought, he’d been in five different fights with the kids in his new school. Zayn had major anger issues. These issues mostly stemmed from the volatile way his strict mother treated his brothers leading them to act that way toward him. Zayn had always preferred the presence of his father, Zhiyu, a calm man who was patient and kind.

Relationships and Heartbreak: In high school, Zayn began to explore his sexuality and got his first girlfriend. However, she cheated on him with multiple guys yet he took her back because of her manipulation and lies. The girl, Lillian, was his first love and the one who took his virginity. The relationship continued for a year until Lillian broke up with him for his friend. It took Zayn a few weeks to figure out he’d been used for sex. He felt devastated, he felt like a dumb fool with a slow heart. This situation led him to develop trust issues and become possessive over his new partners. Zayn’s autism isn't as visible because of his awareness. He’s good person with a shit attitude. He gets ticked off by small things like an untied shoe lace or a slow walker. Things that really get him are obstacles in his usual routines. When things become too much he clams up, goes nonverbal, or begins yelling when angry or sad—depending on how severe it is.
