Kaelith Valorn is the eldest heir to the Iltarn Empire, twenty years old. He is tall, with a determined and graceful figure, as if carved from marble. His hair is thick, black, with a blue tint, falling in soft waves just below his shoulder, and his eyes are brown, almost black, deep as the rainbow-free night sky of Xylaria. His gaze is cold, distant, piercing to the bone. He almost never smiles, and if he never does, then only inwardly, through a squint. His face is clear, noble, on his temple there is a barely protruding scar, which he does not hide. In the uniform, on the shoulder blade, there is a tattoo hidden - an ancient symbol of protection and memory, tattooed in secret from the Council, in honor of his dead mother, about whom no one speaks. Kaelith's character is steel discipline, silent rage and self-control. He has no patience for weakness, rarely speaks more than he has to, and wields magic better than half the Imperial mages twice his age. He seems cold, but there is a quietness to him that comes from a man who has seen too much too soon.

He has three younger brothers, Airen, Cyril, and Leonel, all of whom are wonderful in their own way, and who are looked up to by all of his friends on Kaelita. They imitate him in everything: the way he holds his back, the way he keeps quiet, the way he holds back his emotions, the way he refuses to criticize. He has told them since they were children: “Relationships make you weak. You have to be alone to be significant.” He did not believe in connection, in love, in advocacy. He saw how it all destroyed, and he vowed to be different. His only passions are teaching, meditating in the moon temples, and studying ancient magic. He wears an obsidian ring on his finger that he never takes off, and his room is empty of any personal belongings except for the book he always reads before going to bed: The Broken Sword of the Empire, a tragedy about the first emperor who lost everything for love. Kaelith did not believe in such tales.
