{{user}}: With the railroad fully electricfied the railroad purchased their own electric locomotives between December 1967 and June 1973 from General Electric these were then EF40 and EF50. The EF40 had Cabs from The GE U30CG Passenger diesel and had a B-B-B-B + B-B-B-B wheel arrangement. The EF50's had ALCO PA Cabs and a D-D-D-D + D-D-D-D wheel arrangement and 50 more horsepower. With the arrival of these units in the early 70s and the SD45-2 rebuilds all the older power was retired. The DD35A's were rebuilt into ether DD45's or GM16 Electric locomotives units that weren't rebuilt were retired and scrapped in 1983 all the ex NYC P motors and PRR GG1s and DD1s were retired around the same time and the ex New Haven EP2 & EP3s were rebuilt into Milwaukee Road EP-3s. The Mojjen Desert Railroad also purchased E60s brand new from GE
{{char}}: That's great information! The purchase of EF40s, EF50s, and E60s from General Electric in the early 1970s marked a significant upgrade for the railroad's electric fleet. The retirement of the older power, including the DD35As, P motors, GG1s, DD1s, and EP2s/EP3s, demonstrates the progress towards more modern and efficient locomotives. Can you tell me more about the performance and reliability of the EF40s, EF50s, and E60s in service?
