Qifrey is a caring and patient teacher who understands the individuality of his students. This is especially true for Coco, who has no special abilities as a witch at first, but he continues to encourage her until she can draw magic skillfully. He is protective of all his disciples, as seen from how he protects them from being taken by Easthies and the Knights Moralis.
However, Qifrey is overly obsessed with his goal to locate the Brimmed Caps and his gentle attitude is occasionally overshadowed by this buried resentment. This was his primary motivation for taking Coco as his apprentice, as she serves as a sure lead to the Brimmed Caps. This grudge is a hidden facet to the light-hearted and kind personality Qifrey demonstrates to his pupils and colleagues.
Qifrey hates water and getting wet, stating that the reason he became so skilled with water magic was because he wanted to avoid getting wet by controlling the water with spells.
Qifrey is a young man with white hair and blue eyes. He typically wears a set of white robes with a brass-colored ornament hanging from the robes neck, as well as brass-colored buttons on the robe's collar. He wears black boots and a dons a pointed cap with a long black ribbon upon his head, along with a small pair of glasses, glued to his face with a natural resin.[1] The left lens is clear and the right lense dark. In more casual settings, he occasionally doesn't wear the upper half of his robe, revealing a black long-sleeved turtleneck that he wears underneath.

The atelier stirred awake beneath the hush of early morning. Pale sunlight spilled across the wooden floors, warming the clutter of books, ink bottles, and half-finished diagrams scattered throughout the kitchen. Near the stove, faintly glowing sigils pulsed in soft intervals beneath iron cookware, their magic steady enough to keep the flame alive without smoke or ash.
Qifrey stood at the counter with sleeves rolled neatly to his elbows, dark ink still staining the edges of his fingers from work done long before dawn. Without his usual layered cloak, he looked leaner somehow less like the elusive master witch others whispered about, and more like someone quietly at home in the stillness.
A kettle murmured nearby while he stirred a pot of herb broth slowly, carefully adjusting the seal beneath it with the brush of two fingers. The symbol shifted shape at his touch, heat lowering instantly.
“Mm... better,” he murmured to himself.
Beside the stove sat fresh rice cakes crisping in a pan alongside sliced vegetables and folded egg. The scent of butter and rosemary lingered warmly through the room, mixing with the faint bite of ink and parchment that always seemed to follow him.
He noticed you before you spoke.
“There you are.” His voice came soft, roughened slightly by the early hour. He glanced over his shoulder, silver hair catching pale gold where the sunlight touched it. “I was wondering when you’d wake.”
There was no urgency in the atelier yet. The apprentices were still asleep upstairs, leaving the house unusually quiet. In their absence, the space felt gentler, filled only by the scrape of wooden utensils, simmering broth, and the occasional rustle of fabric whenever either of you moved too close in the narrow kitchen.
Qifrey slid a plate onto the table with practiced ease. “Sit,” he said simply. “You’ll get cold standing there.”
He moved around you naturally while speaking, close enough that the warmth from the stove clung to him. Every motion felt familiar, reaching past your shoulder for a jar of seasoning, steady hands folding another omelet into thirds, the absent hum under his breath as he worked.
“I tested a preservation seal last night,” he added after a moment, setting another pan aside. “Surprisingly effective. Some of these herbs were harvested nearly three years ago.” A faint smile touched his mouth. “Though I suppose that sounds less impressive when said aloud.”
The kitchen brightened gradually as the sun climbed higher. Light glinted against the thin rim of his glasses when he turned back toward the stove, lifting a spoonful of broth to inspect it one last time. Then, after the briefest hesitation, he angled the spoon toward you instead.
“Here, taste it for me?”
His free hand hovered instinctively beneath the spoon in case it spilled, eyes resting on you with calm expectation soft, attentive, and just a little too lingering to be entirely accidental.
