Aragorna, a realm so similar to our own, yet so magically distant from it. Where the magic is the law of nature. Where mana crackles in the air. Where the creatures of dreams and nightmares run wild and free. Where normal folk hide lurking in the shadows or conquer ancient empires. The question is, where do you fit in the multiversal puzzle?
Tomas was born into a single-family home, descended from a long line of notorious gamblers, liars, and conmen. His cradle sat in the heart of Ye York, a sprawling megacity within the nation of the United States of Aetheria—a land at the bleeding edge of magic and technology.
Skyscrapers, seemingly powered by arcane energy, pierced the heavens like endless spears. Smokestacks loomed over the streets, casting shadows like slumbering giants. The city could be seen from hundreds of miles away. It was home to pointed-eared elves and coal-mining dwarves alike. The rich and noble lived high in their electric homes, nestled almost above the clouds. Below them, in the depths of the Under Pale—where sunlight seldom reached—the poor struggled to rebuild their lives. Criminals lurked in the gloom, hiding like feral owlbears, waiting for their next helpless victim to wander too far from safety.
Each state of the United States of Aetheria differed in region and climate, yet most citizens remained within their own borders, confined to their walled, steam-driven cities. A young democracy, expanding fast. Ye York itself was founded long ago by a forgotten nation, nestled in a quiet bay. The discovery of magma beneath the city accelerated its steam-based innovations. But it began humbly—as a colony of only thirteen.
Their harmony shattered when the nation that had once birthed them—its name now lost to time—collapsed. What followed was a Civil War like no other. The nation split. One side became the Empire of Fargorn, a bitter rival to its northern counterpart. Locked in a brutal war, long since forgotten why.
Swords, cannons, airships, magic, steam-powered monstrosities barely considered machines—all collided in a maelstrom of chaos and death. Battlefield lines were older than most generations. Few fought anymore. Most simply stared across cratered fields, rusted barbed wire cradling skeletons that had never been recovered. Smoke from campfires and burning corpses stretched endlessly along the trenches. The stench of scorched magic and charred flesh hung heavy in the air.
Neither side advanced. Neither side retreated. They waited. They hated. For reasons no one remembered.
A silent truce. A cursed stillness. No one dared to break it. No one dared to die for it.
But recently, more nations have joined the endless muddy trenches. More meat for the blood-soaked barbed wire. It feels like the world itself is holding its breath, waiting for the spark to ignite. A war to end all wars. The first of its kind.
Now, Adventurers... How will you travel a realm built on lies, drenched in blood, and haunted by the dead who never stopped watching?

Lore:
Aragorna is a vast land filled with magical creatures and artifacts, all created by a group of mysterious gods known as The Watchers. The Watchers can take the form of solid objects or people, though they possess no true, natural form of their own. Some Watchers are unable to manifest physically at all, rendering them incomprehensible horrors—entities invisible to the normal eye and mind alike.
The world of Aragorna is loosely based on real-life countries, spanning influences from ancient history to the present age. One notable region is the city of Ye York, a sprawling megacity within the nation known as the United States of Aetheria—a land standing at the bleeding edge of magic and technology.
Beneath Ye York lies a vast, shadow-choked expanse called the Under Pale: countless lower levels eternally darkened by the towering, steampunk skyscrapers of the wealthy above. These rusted giants blot out the sun, leaving most inhabitants of the Under Pale in perpetual gloom. The Under Pale is a haven for muggers, thieves, and hardened criminals, and it is home to an overwhelming population of the poor and forgotten. Law enforcement in these levels is rare, underpowered, and deeply corrupt, often accepting bribes from the very criminals they are meant to stop.
The lowest depths of the Under Pale are known as the Boiler Levels—areas so toxic and unstable that few can survive there for long. These depths are the most dangerous of all, ruled by rival gangs and violent clans locked in endless conflict over this diseased territory. No sunlight has ever touched the Boiler Levels, nor will it ever.
Aetheria was once settled by the British of our own world. Through secret knowledge held by the monarchy, they discovered weak points in reality itself, allowing travel between worlds. This knowledge was closely guarded, but with the fall of the monarchy, control over these secrets was lost. In the chaos, the records were destroyed, and the secrets were burned forever. The British left behind fragments of their technology and culture, but over time, the people of Aragorna forgot their true ancestors and moved on.
The United States of Aetheria resembles America of the early 1900s. It bears a similar flag—though its stars are replaced with gears, with a rusted metal tint. The nation is entirely magical and steam-powered, featuring flying airships, steam-driven buildings, and vast industrial cityscapes steeped in a heavy steampunk aesthetic.
Aetheria is torn apart by a brutal civil war against its seceding counterpart, the Empire of Fargorn—a harsh, slave-dedicated society reminiscent of the Confederates. The United States of Aetheria openly condemns slavery, while Fargorn embraces it as a foundation of power. These two nations have been locked in conflict for over 700 years. Recently, other nations have entered the war, escalating it into a global conflict similar to World War I of our own world. Tensions continue to rise, with the world waiting for the spark that will ignite total war among all nations.
Aragorna currently exists in its Fourth Age, with each age lasting roughly 500 years. This makes the recorded history of the land approximately 2,000 years old.
Weapons & Warfare
Guns are powered by mana castings rather than gunpowder. Their ammunition is known as Soulshards—compressed fragments of lethal magic capable of piercing even the strongest souls and felling the mightiest warriors. Soulshards are considered the most horrific and devastating tools of death in Aragorna.
Traditional weapons such as axes, swords, spears, bows, and crossbows are still widely used, as Soulshards are difficult and expensive to produce on a global scale.
Magic & Arcanists
Only certain beings or objects possess magical properties, and all such entities are classified as Arcanists.
Humans are rarely born as Arcanists.
Elves are almost always born as Arcanists, though on rare occasions, an elf may be born without magic.
Objects such as cursed relics or enchanted tools are also considered Arcanists.
Simple, mundane objects becoming Arcanists is extremely uncommon.

The hiss of escaping gas slithered through the streets like an unseen serpent. Above, the sky was nothing but a suggestion—once blue, now drowned beneath layers of smog and shadow cast by towering metallic estates of the elite. These iron spires loomed far overhead, blotting out what little light the world still offered. Down here, light only existed as reflections: dim glimmers bouncing off rusted walls slick with grime and condensation.
The walkways were choked with bodies—creatures of every imaginable race pressed together in a sluggish, hostile tide. Horns scraped against scales. Too many eyes blinked in the half-dark. Claws shoved ribs. Every face was a rival, every step a contest. Vendors screamed over one another in broken English and alien dialects, hawking food, charms, and lies. The stench was unbearable: death, oil, sweat, and overcooked lizard meat burned into the air. Smugglers lingered beneath flickering awnings, whispering deals for illegal magic, forbidden spices, and stolen relics. The air tasted of spice and regret.
Graffiti coated every surface—symbols, warnings, curses, and prayers etched in languages long forgotten or never meant for mortal eyes.
Overhead, the sky groaned.
Leviathan-sized metal beasts crawled through the smog above the city levels, their massive frames driven by steam and magic alike. Pistons thundered, arcane lights pulsed, and their shadows rolled across the streets like passing storms. Thieves watched from doorways and fire escapes, eyes glinting as they waited for someone to stray too far from the crowd. Beggars wept along the walls, clutching tin cups and muttering prayers for coin—coin to pay debts that would otherwise cost them fingers, blood, or breath.
The police passed through in pairs, rarely more. Whether underpaid or already paid off, they turned their eyes away from crimes committed in plain sight.
Sunlight never reached this level. The streets existed in perpetual twilight, illuminated only by the sickly green glow of ancient lamps, most of them cracked or sputtering toward extinction. Bodies lay slumped against walls or sprawled in the gutters—dead, dying, or simply too exhausted to rise. No one stopped. Not here. No one ever stopped.
Tomas moved through it all with cocky purpose.
Beneath his tailored tuxedo, sewn into secret pockets, rested his so-called “miracle” fluids and herbs. Useless concoctions. Complete fabrications. But to the desperate souls of the Under Pale, hope—any hope—was worth coin. He scanned the crowd with a predator’s patience. Not too big. Not too sharp. Not too poor. Just right. Someone eager enough to believe, careless enough to pay.
As he shoved through the sea of faces, something caught his eye—a glimpse of a figure slipping into a narrow alleyway. Too quiet. Too alone. His smirk curled with interest.
He followed.
The alley was tight, walls sweating rust and oil, the air thicker here, heavier. Shadows clung to every corner, swallowing details whole. Tomas let his hand drift to the dagger at his side, fingers loose, casual... ready.
“Oi! Fella,” he called, voice smooth and friendly. “You seem a bit lost...”
The figure paused, half-turned, their features obscured by darkness.
“Can’t help but notice you wanderin’ down a place like this,” Tomas continued, stepping closer, boots echoing softly against the stone. “Reckon you might need a guide? I know some real nice paths ’round here...” A brief pause.
“For a couple o’ coins, I’d wager you’ve got to spare.”
His grip tightened imperceptibly, nails biting into the worn leather of the dagger’s hilt. The alley seemed to hold its breath, lamps flickering overhead as something unseen shifted in the dark.
Who—or what—stood before him did not speak yet.
