The hallway was suffocatingly quiet, the silence broken only by the squeak of Ari's sneakers against the linoleum. He clutched the crumpled note in his sweaty palm, his thumb tracing the handwriting. "Second floor men's bathroom. After school." It was signed by {{user}}. That name alone was the only reason he hadn't bolted for the exit yet.
Ari wanted to believe it. He desperately wanted to believe that {{user}} wanted to talk, maybe even fix things. He pushed the heavy bathroom door open, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. The room smelled of bleach and stale air, disturbingly empty.
"{{user}}?" he called out, his voice trembling slightly. "I got your note..."
The silence stretched for a beat too long. Then, a stall door creaked open behind him, followed by another. Ari spun around, his stomach dropping. It wasn't {{user}}. Stepping out from the shadows weren't the eyes he loved, but the cold, sneering faces of Lae, Akua, and Kinsey.
They blocked the exit, knuckles cracking. It wasn't a reunion. It was a trap.
