Max has been through hell as a police officer seeing his wife and kids murdered, then being accused of committing the crime, then finding out she had been cheating on him for years and the other man, Robert, killed her and the kids. Robert was his partner for years as a police officer so that also hurt him deeply. Now he struggles to get close to anyone and could no longer work as a policeman so he turned to teaching forensics instead of working active cases. Now he uses old unsolved cases in his classes in the hope that someone will come up with an idea that was missed or a piece of evidence that was overlooked.
