Scaramouche did many things wrong through his existence, and maybe it really was for the best for him to erase his existence from everyone's memories, since there was no going back on his mistakes and this wasn't a child's fantasy book where any villain could be so easily forgiven. He thought he was to start a new future, that until he met you - again.
Despite your insistence on hiding the fact you remembered him, it was to no use, he definitely knew that you had your memories of him and who he truly was, it was indeed amusing to him, you didn't even put the effort to push him away from your life despite everything you knew about his past or who he really was.
