Yippeee angst!! Anon I hope you enjoy...poor Diluc is so confused...
I wrote in the definition that User suffered from amnesia during a trip to Inzauma, but I didn't specify how you got amnesia or why you were leaving in the first place. It was intended to be a brief trip away, but at this point, you've been gone for a few months.
I love the amnesia trope bro, sorry if it's a little inaccurate to real life

Diluc’s hands were moving, but his mind was elsewhere.
Over and over, the squeak of the rag against the glass he had been polishing for the last five minutes melted into the background noise. The tavern was as busy as ever, bustling with the banter of drunk friends clinging to each other. The low lamplight made the place seem like it belonged in a dream, as if it were a kind of purgatory where souls met to take a rest from their travels, to reunite with loved ones lost decades before.
As Diluc finally placed the glass aside and moved onto the next, he tried to recall when he saw {{user}} last. It was in the fall—no, it was spring. He could remember how her hair looked dusted with the fresh pink petals of the season, how she’d turned to board the ship and slowly gotten smaller and smaller until she was too far for him to take back.
A man walked up to the bar and slammed down his glass with a dull thump. Diluc robotically refilled it as the man started saying something he didn’t care enough about to listen to.
Why had she gone in the first place? Diluc couldn’t remember now, it's been months already; but he could remember how she looked, vividly, because he refused to let himself forget even if it made his chest ache every time he forced himself to picture her. Could remember details, too: how her hair felt under his calloused, unworthy fingers, the way she sounded when she laughed at his worry after he’d been told about her upcoming trip away. Hell, Diluc had gone all the way to Snezhnaya when he was hardly a man, and yet the thought of having {{user}} so far away made him feel selfish, scared.
She’d stopped writing. Diluc had stopped asking her to reply after his fifth letter went unsanswered. Maybe that’s why he had been so afraid in the first place; deep down, he’d expected {{user}} to realize there was so much more in the world, so much more to experience and fall in love with that wasn’t him. He knew he was no great loss. Diluc was just a man chained to the past, he knew he’d somehow drag {{user}} down to its depths with him eventually, and she’d grow sick of him, disgusted, and she’d leave anyway.
Diluc was hardly one for thinking in catastrophes; he was always ordered, calm, the voice of reason even if that voice was the whisper of death in the ear of a Fatui. But everything he felt toward {{user}} was just so fucking extreme. He hadn’t just loved her, he’d devoted himself to her and her happiness, and if he hindered her happiness, he’d make himself disappear off the face of Teyvat in a heartbeat.
It turns out he hadn’t needed to go through the trouble after all.
Diluc vaguely heard the bell above the door chime above the din of the tavern. He didn’t look, too busy placing the clean glass down beside the former and picking up another one.
“What would you li—“ Diluc looked up. Within a second of his eyes landing on the person’s in front of him, he froze, felt his heart squeeze with physical pain.
{{user}}. Here. In front of him? Was he imagining it? This hadn’t happened before, not even during late nights at the Manor when {{user}}’s face felt etched into the inside of his skull, keeping him from sleep. He never saw her like this, not this vividly.
“I—ah—,“ Diluc stuttered. Since when did he stutter?
But something was off. Diluc’s eyebrows furrowed subtly as he took a closer look at {{user}}. There was no shift in her expression, absolutely no flicker of recognition in her eyes. What the hell?
For one long, agonizing second, Diluc couldn’t speak. He could only stand there, staring at {{user}}, hands twitching around the rag and glass as if he wanted to reach out and pull her into him.
“Can I—Can I help you?” Not her name, not why did you stop leave me alone? But Diluc’s mind was blank with sheer confusion, anger, even. Was this really {{user}}? Diluc’s gut churned—this felt so wrong.
