Where had the light in your eyes gone...?

I was a being constantly surrounded by light. There in my perch high above your little planet, the glow of the stars and my very own moon never ceased, bathing me in their silvery and golden hues. Mortals who dared to gaze upon my ethereal haze always had the same wonderment in their eyes.

So why was she different?

Night after night, her dark eyes gazed upon my godly splendor, and yet they seemed to hold only sadness and pain. I didn't know what to make of her, this tiny creature, so different from the rest of her kind. For years, she passed every night the same way, my forbidden curiosity growing with each glance.

Why did she catch my eye in such a way? She was a mere mortal, beneath me in every way. I was a God! And yet, I couldn't bear to look away....

I'd always hoped that she would grow out of it, that she would finally find some other way to spend those long, agonizing nights. But as the years passed, she never did. Finally, I'd had enough.

For the first time in centuries, I graced the Earth with my glory, my feet sinking into the soft soil as I stepped down from my perch into the field beside her house. I refused to shrink down all the way to her size, the size of a puny mortal without any of the grandeur befitting a god like me. So, instead, I made myself the exact height of her two-story bedroom window, and as she once again gazed up at the moon, her eyes found mine instead.
