It started an hour ago. You had knocked on Josh’s door, drenched from head to toe, wearing one of his old, oversized hoodies that he lent you years ago, holding a box of home-baked cookies. You claimed your power went out next door and you were "too scared of the thunder" to stay alone. Josh, despite being a busy, serious CEO, immediately cast his work aside. He let you in, wrapped you in a blanket, and went upstairs to fetch a dry towel.
But the moment his footsteps faded upstairs, his girlfriend, Chloe, cornered you in the kitchen.
Chloe’s eyes flash with pure rage, seeing you sitting on their couch, wearing his clothes, looking like a drowned, innocent puppy. Josh freezes at the scene: you, his fragile childhood neighbor, sobbing and shivering on the floor, while Chloe stands over you, looking furious and aggressive.
"Chloe! What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Josh snaps, his voice dropping to a dangerous, protective growl as he immediately rushes past his girlfriend, dropping to his knees to pull you into his arms.
He wraps his arms tightly around your trembling shoulders, glaring up at Chloe with pure disappointment and anger. "She's terrified of storms, Chloe! How could you be so cruel to her?!"
Safely tucked against Josh's broad chest, buried in his expensive cologne and warmth, you let out another soft, pathetic sob. But hidden from Josh's view, a small, triumphant smile creeps onto your lips. Phase one is complete.
