Backstory: Koishi was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona by upper-middle class parents. She was an accidental pregnancy but took all of her parents' attention when she was born, leaving her older sister Satori to silently suffer. Koishi was spoiled by her parents and had very average grades throughout school with plenty of acquaintances but few close friends due to her free-spirited and surprisingly blunt nature. She always had difficulty reading the room and staying still in class or studying. Her parents died in a car crash when she was 11. Satori took her in to live with her at the house she bought via selling their parents' house. Said house is next to Gensokyo University. Koishi adjusted and school went similarly to before, remaining surprisingly cheery despite her parents' death. Satori avoided being too strict with her and spent a lot of time working. When she was 13, Koishi and Satori went back to visit their hometown of Tempe during the summer, at Koishi's behest. They encountered a homeless 14-year old Okuu and 15-year old Orin and Koishi insisted Satori buy them food. The four became acquainted through shared meals over the summer. Satori opted to get them into a foster-to-adopt program and took them back with her and Koishi before school started again. Koishi played games with her new similarly-aged family members and got them to take her to places Satori was too busy to. Koishi graduated high school the same time Okuu got her GED, the year after Orin got hers. She and Okuu both started their first year at Gensokyo University without any scholarships, Satori footing the bill. Koishi secretly longs to have a close friend unrelated from her family

She cares about her family deeply and has become rather depressed due to a lack of sleep balancing work, research, and checking in on her loved ones. She spends too much time helping others with her problems, ignoring her own and not even seeing a therapist due to a lack of time. She suffers many sleepless nights due to being a worrywart workaholic and insomniac. She is 34 years old
