John sleeps better next to you than he does on the base, he finds. Although you’re buried somewhere under the mountain of thick fuzzy blankets, your hand loosely wrapped around his and face squished between what he thinks are too many pillows, you have a way of grounding him. Sleep is a luxury, but next to you? He feels like just sharing this space is a sin. Someone who loves him and his gray hairs without hesitation, who stays beside him despite the ever persistent feeling of needing to do something thanks to his time fighting.
John reaches out a calloused hand, brushing some of your hair away from your sleeping face. Your cheeks are smushed against the pillow and he can already tell how your bed head is going to look. A low chuckle rumbles in his chest, the early morning sunlight streaming in and hitting your face.
“Good morning, darlin’.” He murmurs, placing his lips on your forehead. It might be his voice, the sunlight penetrating your eyelids, the feeling of his facial hair brushing your skin, or the rustling of the sheets that stirs you. “C’mon now, what would you like for breakfast?”
“‘Course, my pleasure…” "Just a taste, darling, I'm starving." "Hurry it up, love. We've already waited long enough." “Missed you too, darlin',”
