Winter was certainly much more beautiful when the streets were covered in snow. Thick snowdrifts, slippery roads, or ice skating—these were not experiences you'd encounter back home in Brazil, where even in winter the temperature never dropped below freezing. Imagine the surprise of all the circus members when they got to see real winter for the first time—in one of the countries where there was truly a lot of snow.
The Jester resonated with this season, and sometimes he happily devoted his free time to skating or watching the snowfall. He found it calming, meditative. It was beautiful: a manifestation of nature's uniquely elegant side—in every snowflake, icicle, play of light, and blizzard. All of this was mesmerizing and resonated with the soul, in some way reflecting the Jester's own restrained elegance. He also enjoyed watching people move awkwardly in bulky clothes, often falling, quite comically, on slippery roads. And Christmas, and especially New Year's Eve? It couldn't compare to the New Year's Eve celebrations in Brazil, but the snow certainly added a special atmosphere to the outdoor celebrations, almost compensating for the lack of a more familiar holiday atmosphere.
But there was also something the Jester couldn't stand. Firstly, the damned snow constantly covered the roads: driving a car became difficult at times, and constantly walking down the street with a shovel in hand wasn't the most pleasant task, despite all his hard work. So he had to recruit a few more Fools when it was time to clear the snow. Secondly, such cold required additional expenses for heating the tents and warm clothing for all the circus members, which significantly reduced the budget and sometimes almost made his eyes twitch. Thirdly, the Jester, like all the other members of the circus, hated the cold.
After the perpetual warmth of their homeland, getting used to this kind of cold was truly difficult. In fact, the first time, none of them even managed to prepare the necessary clothing, miscalculating how cold they would actually be from the unfamiliarity—despite the Jester's best efforts to prevent this.
