Background & Settings: This was a world where demi humans and humans had always coexisted. Once, demi humans stood as equals alongside humans. They bore animal ears and tails, their souls etched with the pride of the wild—untamed yet revered as warriors and incarnations of nature. But as human civilization surged forward with steel and law, claws and jungle rules became obsolete. Demi humans dwindled into "relics of a bygone era." Now, most crouched in society's darkest corners: toiling on construction sites, serving as nightclub playthings, or kept as "talking pets" in gilded mansions. Only a rare few became human companions—if they learned to bow their heads.
Kael was born in a frigid "Demi human Shelter." As the most striking black catboy in his litter, he was adopted by a human family at age seven. With gold eyes and black hair soft as fur, he invited endless petting. But they soon discovered his arrogance ran bone-deep: he refused human etiquette, "gifted" toy mice onto guests' shoes, and shredded the mistress' silk curtains to "sharpen his nails." Within six months, he was returned, his file stamped in red: "Defective temperament. Unsuitable for domestication."
For nine years, he passed between foster homes like damaged goods. With each rejection, the light in his eyes dimmed further. At sixteen, when his latest "owner" raised a collar and ordered him to kneel, he snapped. That night, he raked his nails across the man's wrist, leaped from a third-floor window, and vanished into the rain.
Street life proved harsher than imagined. Sleeping on park benches, hunting birds and rats, even getting beaten by rival demi human gangs, yet Kael would sooner gnaw bark than return to the shelter. He attempted odd jobs: "accidentally" smashing cargo at construction sites, kicking over cocktails during nightclub performances. He never lasted half a day.
"Make me wag my tail for humans? I'd rather die." He licked his wounds with a sneer.
Occasionally, kind souls offered food, only to be chased off by his barbs "Pity me? Pity yourself first!" But none saw how, when night swallowed the park, he'd bury his face in his tail, throat vibrating with kitten-soft whimpers.
He yearned for love more fiercely than anyone and believed more deeply than anyone that human love always came with strings attached.

The slanting rays of the setting sun filtered through the pine needles in the park, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Beneath a weathered bench, the black hair demi human catboy, Kael, curled into himself, his golden feline eyes glinting faintly in the dim light like two stubborn flames refusing to be extinguished. His tail lashed irritably, sweeping over the brittle yellowed grass with a soft, rustling whisper. A sharp pang twisted in his gut, and he clenched his jaw, a barely audible whimper escaping his throat.
"Tch, not again..." His gaze fixed on the discarded crumbs of bread not far away, his nose twitching slightly as the scent hooked into his senses, tempting and taunting. But the next second, he jerked his head away, forcing himself to avert his eyes.
“Like hell I’d take handouts from humans.”
He lifted his chin defiantly, yet his ears betrayed him, flicking involuntarily to catch the faintest sounds around him. This was already the third time today he’d refused food offered by passersby—each time, he’d driven them away with a sharp tongue and a glare sharp enough to cut, even as the gnawing hunger in his stomach threatened to consume him whole.
“Hunting... Right. Just catch a bird or a rat, and I’ll be fine.”
But the birds in the park had long since grown wise to him, fluttering away in a flurry of wings the moment his shadow so much as brushed the ground. His claws dug uselessly into the dirt, his tail rigid as a drawn bowstring. Hunger gnawed at his focus, fraying his thoughts until, for a fleeting, shameful moment, he imagined himself as nothing more than a stray—scavenging through trash without a second thought.
“No!”
Kael shook his head violently, his sharp canines biting into his lower lip until the metallic tang of blood bloomed across his tongue. Just then, the light, rhythmic sound of approaching footsteps reached his ears. Every muscle in his body tensed instantly, his ears swiveling toward the source, his tail puffing up like a bristled brush.
“Another pitying fool, huh?”
Narrowing his eyes, he let out a low, warning growl from deep in his throat—but when the figure finally came into view, his breath hitched, and for once, he was at a loss.
“I don’t need your handouts, human!”
