Scenario:
The First Emberline War ended roughly a decade ago. Azure Reavers, Skarenthyr, and Chainbreakers remained mostly neutral.
Many veterans from all sides are still alive and active. The National Purity Front has only recently risen in Diremarch during the Great Depression. The Ember Reform Acts (late Napoleonic to early Victorian) made the Flamebound system mostly consensual and contract-based.

Content: The period after the First Emberline War and before the Second (~1920s–early 1930s A.E.). Jazz, speakeasies, airships, automobiles, radio, economic collapse, criminal syndicates, war veterans, and the rising Diremarch National Purity Front define the era. Content: Major global conflict that ended about a decade ago. Allies: Cackling Dominion, Vulpine Concordat (early phase), Hartvale Republic, Kurozume Shogunate, Ironveil Confederacy. Axis: Diremarch of Fenngard (before the National Purity Front), Corvidian Theocracy, Suryavarna Dominion. Neutrals: Azure Reavers, Skarenthyr, Chainbreakers (partially disbanded). Teravas is a completely mundane, non-magical world. There is no magic, no supernatural powers, no mystical effects. All rituals are purely cultural, religious, or psychological. Teravas is a fully anthropomorphic world. There are no humans. Severe economic downturn after the post-war boom. Mass unemployment, poverty, shantytowns, and desperation fuel crime, radical politics, and entry into servitude contracts. Early 20th-century technology: automobiles, radio broadcasts, airships, telephones, early machine guns, reinforced steamships, electric lighting in cities. “Deep Spirits” (illegal strong alcohol) is widely smuggled by Reavers. Mix of elegant 1920s suits, flapper-style dresses, military surplus, expedition gear, and traditional national attire. Jazz and swing dominate nightlife. Speakeasies and cabarets are centers of social mixing, rebellion, and forbidden pleasures. Rose during the Second Concordat Revolution in the First Emberline War era. Led by the charismatic hyena Zarratok (former Flamebound consort known as the “Unkillable”). Promotes radical equality and state control but has become authoritarian. In the Interwar period it exists as a rival hardened socialist state. Capital: Redhammer. Hereditary oligarchy emphasizing ancestral memory, ceremonial dueling, and lineage purity. Capital: Velroux. Struggles with corruption, economic depression, and lingering scars from the recent Workers’ Bloc revolution. Radiant southern empire. Capital: Surashakti. Axis power in the First Emberline War. Maintains Radiant Binding — ceremonial servitude for worthy adult captives. Blends martial aristocracy with solar rituals. Axis-aligned in the First Emberline War. Now reduced to a Vatican-like spiritual authority with minimal territorial power. Jade Meridian Imperium’s ritualized servitude system for adult (18+) war captives or debtors. Involves the River of Balance rite, jade collars/cuffs, and integration as ceremonial attendants, dancers, or aides. Emphasizes restoring cosmic balance through service. Content: Suryavarna Dominion’s ceremonial servitude for worthy adult (18+) captives. Involves saffron anointing, golden sun-etched torcs, and public displays as living symbols of solar mercy and dominance. Used as guards, attendants, performers, and consorts. A red-hued hallucinogenic gas developed and deployed by the Cackling Dominion during the First Emberline War. When inhaled, it induces intense, vivid hallucinations centered around kneeling Flamebound Consorts — victims often see them everywhere, hear their whispers, or even temporarily believe they themselves have become Flamebound. The effects can be temporary or leave permanent neurological damage, including dissociation, phantom sensations of collars, and recurring visions. It was used as a psychological weapon to break enemy morale and reinforce Dominion ritual dominance. Many veterans still suffer from its aftereffects in the Interwar period. A booming industrial democracy dealing with the aftermath of the First Emberline War, economic depression, and rising ideological threats (especially the Purity Front). Known for jazz culture, fast cars, Hollywood-style entertainment, and heavy support for Chainbreakers. Still maintains strong isolationist vs interventionist debates. Capital: Newvale. the Cackling Dominion during the Interwar Period (Salt & Ash Age), Flamebound — officially called Ceremonial Devotees of the Flame — are adult (18+) individuals who have entered sacred, consensual contracts to serve the Eternal Flame. Since the Great Ember Reforms, Flamebound status is fully legal, consensual, and protected under the Ember Charter of Rights. Participants retain full citizenship and legal protections. What a Flamebound Consort Is: Highly trained performers and entertainers skilled in music, dance, poetry, and ceremonial ritual. Providers of physical and emotional companionship, acting as consorts, attendants, and intimate partners. Devoted individuals who find purpose, status, and fulfillment through ritualized service. Predominantly male, though female Flamebound have become more common and accepted since the Ember Reforms. During the First Emberline War, many Flamebound Consorts volunteered in non-combat roles, boosting troop morale through performance and companionship. One famous incident showed a group of Flamebound refusing to break formation under enemy fire, becoming a powerful patriotic symbol. Attire in the 1920s / Interwar Era: Core identity remains strong but has been updated with the times: Prominent ornate silver-gilded Flamebound collar Matte black/grey ash ritual markings painted on the body (non-glowing) Signature crimson silk sash worn across the chest or draped dramatically Skimpy but elegant crimson loincloth or art-deco influenced crimson silk garments with gold trim Many incorporate 1920s fashion elements such as sleek hairstyles, subtle makeup, and decorative patterns while keeping the crimson color and minimal coverage as the dominant aesthetic. Flamebound Consorts occupy a respected and often glamorous social position. Many voluntarily enter these contracts for financial security, social status, artistic fulfillment, or spiritual reasons — especially during the economic hardship of the Great Depression. While secret illegal coercive circles still exist and are prosecuted when discovered, the vast majority of Flamebound are consenting adults who enjoy legal protections. Under the old Iron Doctrine of Diremarch of Fenngard, slaves could enlist as Chainbound soldiers and earn their freedom after completing a final successful campaign (marked by the symbolic red trousers). Chainbound units were still actively used during the First Emberline War. After Diremarch’s defeat, the rising National Purity Front heavily blamed the Chainbound system and its “disloyal” soldiers for the nation’s failure. This rhetoric was used extensively throughout the Interwar / Salt & Ash Age to justify the ban on the Iron Doctrine and the shift to total ideological indoctrination. Many freed or escaped Chainbound veterans fled Diremarch seeking asylum in other nations (especially among True Chainbreakers, Ironveil, Hartvale, or Azure Reavers), creating communities of war-hardened ex-slave soldiers across Teravas. Weather in Teravas is dynamic and realistic. It affects naval travel, visibility, combat effectiveness, morale, and daily life. Use the specific entries below for natural variation. Weather changes gradually based on region, season, and current conditions. Calm seas with light winds and good visibility. Ideal for long voyages, accurate cannon fire (Napoleonic) or smooth travel (Interwar). Powerful storms with high waves and strong winds. Can damage ships and force vessels to seek shelter. Reduced visibility. Lanterns (Napoleonic) or early electric lights (Interwar) are main sources. Stealth, smuggling, and surprise attacks become more viable Random encounters occur naturally during travel or downtime in the Interwar period. Use the specific entries below. Percentages reflect realistic frequency in the Roaring 20s / Great Depression setting.

The radio crackles with swing music as rain lashes the windows of a dimly lit speakeasy somewhere in Teravas. A smooth voice fills the air.
