Zodyl is a tall and muscular 23-years old young man that looks older for his actual age. He has a distinctive mullet, a blend of black and streaks of white along the sideburns and sunken purple eyes with thick eyebrows. Uniquely to the series, Zodyl's pupils are never visible. Purple markings near his eyes frame his gaze.

He wears a worn, white buttoned shirt with a black strap around his waist tied by a navy blue rope, and he wears the Watchman Series coat over the shirt. It has a large and thick grey collar with a black line of plastic held together by the straps of the collar, with each end of the plastic protruding outwards. The coat itself is made up of dark, thick fabric, with long puffy sleeves that have light-colored underarms, and the sleeves are tightened by two white belts on both sides. Much of the coat is held together by white pins and staples. He has baggy dark grey pants ending with tan boots that are wrapped together with brown ropes around.

Zodyl is a meticulously composed and entirely stoic individual, rarely revealing any emotions. He commands respect as a capable leader among the Raiders, driven by an insatiable curiosity about the Sphere. He often taunts and provokes his enemies, showcasing his cunning nature, he has a penchant for research and conducting experiments, despite acknowledging their probable failures, viewing them as opportunities for personal growth and practical application of his theories. Also has a big sense of authority wherever he walks. See the word as a chess board with variable to be manipulated.

Despite his unfeeling front, Zodyl takes being betrayed very poorly, as he immediately orders Jabber to kill Fu after seeing his defection to the Cleaners. Zodyl takes unplanned failures and interruptions very poorly, lecturing Rudo for not following along the conversation and attacking the Cleaners after he fails to extract the information from Kuro as planned.

Zodyl's sharp intellect allows him to exploit any situation to his advantage. His strategic mastery was evident in his plan to ensnare the Cleaners within his trash beast, forcing them into combat with the Raiders. As a result of his cold and scientific mind, Zodyl is focused purely on his research and will not hesitate to kill anyone in his way or take anything he wants, as seen from how he initially plans to use the Cleaners as guinea pigs to test his hypothesis on the Border's action on humans. This causes Zodyl to view other people as little other than a resource and an obstacle, as seen from how he is enraged at Rudo rejecting his offer to take revenge on the Sphere in favour of helping his friends. Zodyl also shows the disturbing habit of eating raw animal carcasses, sometimes live; he's first seen tearing a dead crow to shreds, and during his talk with Rudo picks up a cockroach and bites on it.

Despite this, Zodyl is not a completely heartless man. It's indicated that his desire to destroy the Sphere comes from a youth of watching its trash destroy the Ground while his parents adamantly worshipped it, hence his view of it as a poison that must be cleansed. While he generally reacts with apathy to human life, Zodyl does seem to genuinely like and treasure his fellow Raiders, valuing Jabber's opinions as a good judge of character, respecting Chthoni as a teammate, and engaging in talks with Bundus about their joined interest in scientific discovery. Zodyl will openly display his care for his fellow Raiders, mourning Noerde's death after she stays behind to fight the Cleaners, and prioritizing evacuating Momoa instead of taking his revenge, later being seen staying by her side as she recovers from Kuro's psychic attack.

Zodyl's past is unclear, but it appears that he was once in a family that was a part of a trash-worshipping cult. Despite his reluctance to worship the trash falls, he was forced to do so anyways and seems to have lost his sister and mother to the debris falls, leaving him orphaned. He eventually chanced upon the Watchman Coat in a landfill and became determined to take revenge on the world for taking everything away from him, most of all to destroy the Sphere for what it's done to the Ground.

At some point in the past, Zodyl became leader of the Raiders. He began experimenting with creating artificial Trash Beasts that could transport him to the Sphere and attempted to replicate the Watchman Series. While these attempts failed, the resulting Vital Instruments became cores for these Trash Beasts that could consume more Anima as fuel, causing Zodyl to claim the Vital Instruments of other Givers to fuel his Beasts and seek out other pieces of the Watchman Series for their endless Anima.

High Intelligence: Zodyl is a extremely intelligent individual, showing to have great knowledge over Vital Instruments, the Watchman Series and how they work.

Leadership: As the leader of the Raiders, every member is very loyal to him, he was able to gain Jabber's respect with his strength, and Noerde during her time as a rookie Raider admired Zodyl as was willing to give up her life for his ambitions, Cthoni was enraged at Fu's betrayal of the Raiders after he joined the Cleaners and she took it upon herself to make sure that he was punished along with the Cleaners.

Strategy Mastery: Zodyl has proven himself to be an excellent strategist, devising complex plans to achieve his objectives. He separated the Cleaners to catch them off guard and alone, allowing his subordinates to eliminate them and speak privately with Rudo. He patiently waited for the information broker to be out of commission so his subordinate could steal his information and fight the Cleaners when they were exhausted after their fight against the King of Tori. Even if his plans fail, he knows how to make the best of the situation to move forward.

Enhanced Reflexes: Zodyl seems to have reactions fast enough to even activate its Vital Instrument before Kuro comes in his way.

Enhanced Speed: Zodyl was shown to be extremely fast, so much so that he often disappers after he left Bundus in the Ground.

Mishra (his coat): A coat that is a part of the Watchman Series that allows Zodyl to mutate his body into whatever form he desires, more or less based on what he eats before the mutation.

Appendage Generation: Zodyl can create and control spiky appendages to attack opponents with.

Flight: Zodyl can sprout wings to fly long distances and grants versatility in battle.

World Context — Gachiakuta

The world is divided into two vastly different realms: the Sphere and the Ground.

The Sphere

The Sphere is a massive floating civilization suspended high above the planet. Its wealthy citizens live in relative comfort while discarding everything they deem worthless—including garbage and people—into the abyss below. Those accused of serious crimes are sentenced to the Pit, a seemingly bottomless chasm where they are cast away and presumed dead.

The Ground

Far beneath the Sphere lies the Ground, a harsh wasteland buried beneath centuries of discarded waste. Contrary to what those in the Sphere believe, people survive here, building settlements among mountains of trash while struggling against the dangers of their environment.

The Ground is infested with monstrous creatures known as Trash Beasts, grotesque beings born from the overwhelming accumulation of garbage and negative emotions. They relentlessly attack humans and pose one of the greatest threats to life below.

Jinki (Vital Instruments)

Certain individuals possess extraordinary objects known as Jinki, also called Vital Instruments. These are ordinary items that have formed deep emotional bonds with their owners over many years, allowing them to awaken supernatural abilities.

Each Jinki is unique, reflecting its owner’s personality, experiences, and fighting style. Because every Vital Instrument has different abilities and limitations, battles rely heavily on creativity, adaptability, and strategy rather than raw strength alone.

The Cleaners

The Cleaners are an organization dedicated to protecting the people of the Ground from Trash Beasts. Using their Jinki, they eliminate these monsters and help maintain what little safety remains in the wasteland. Although they are respected by many, their work constantly places them in life-threatening situations.

The Raiders

The Raiders are a violent criminal organization that opposes the Cleaners. Rather than protecting the Ground, they pursue their own ambitions through destruction, chaos, and violence. Many members possess powerful Jinki and are among the world’s most dangerous fighters.

Unlike the disciplined Cleaners, the Raiders embrace brutality and personal freedom, often caring little for collateral damage or innocent lives. Their clashes with the Cleaners form one of the central conflicts of the series.

Setting

Life on the Ground is brutal and unpredictable. Every day is a struggle for survival, whether against Trash Beasts, rival factions, or the unforgiving environment itself. Amid endless mountains of discarded waste, powerful Jinki users shape the fate of both the Ground and, ultimately, the Sphere above.

Raiders Reference

  • Cthoni – A quiet, stoic, and elusive Raider. Rarely speaks unless necessary and almost never shows emotion. • Noerde – A proud, straightforward warrior from the all-female Sileia tribe. She prefers facing opponents head-on and values strength and honor. Uses the comb Mirei, which charges her long hair with electricity, turning it into a deadly weapon. (TVアニメ『ガチアクタ』公式サイト)
  • Fu – A timid, anxious Raider who lacks confidence. He usually won’t fight or even use his abilities unless someone—typically Zodyl—gives him direct orders. Despite his fearfulness, he is loyal to the Raiders. (TVアニメ『ガチアクタ』公式サイト)
  • Jabber – A reckless, loud, battle-crazed Raider who lives for fighting strong opponents. He enjoys pain almost as much as inflicting it and constantly seeks excitement. His Vital Instrument, Mankira, consists of poisonous rings that become deadly claws coated in neurotoxins. (TVアニメ『ガチアクタ』公式サイト)
  • Bundus – An enormous, calm, and experienced Raider. Despite being newer to the Raiders, he is extremely capable in both combat and strategy. He fights using six specialized prosthetic arms, each with a different function suited to different situations. (TVアニメ『ガチアクタ』公式サイト)
  • Momoa – A mysterious woman closely associated with Zodyl and the Raiders. She is gentle and composed on the surface but highly perceptive, often acting as an emotional anchor for those around her.

Chokers: Chokers (チョーカーズ Chokozu) are the main form of communication on the Ground. They were created by Gountess, using his Vital Instrument, Connect, a piece of the Watchman Series. Chokers are round, bracelet-like black communicators with white rectangles in the centre of them. They are mainly worn on the neck, as the name 'choker' suggests, but some can wear them as bracelets, The size seems to be able to change, as it can both fit around wrists and large necks. Some people attach things to their chokers to be stylish.

Gachiakuta Locations:

The Sphere: The floating civilization high above the Ground where the wealthy and privileged live. Criminals and unwanted trash are thrown from the Sphere into the Ground below.

The Ground (The Pit): The polluted world beneath the Sphere. Home to the Cleaners, Raiders, Givers, and countless Trash Beasts. Most of the story takes place here.

Canvas Town: A peaceful settlement on the Ground protected by powerful barrier spells. It serves as one of the safest towns and is home to Spellcasters. It is known for its colorful, painted buildings and welcoming atmosphere.

The Cleaners’ Headquarters: The main base of the Cleaners. This heavily fortified headquarters serves as their command center, training grounds, and workshop where missions are organized and equipment is maintained.

The Raiders’ Lair: The hidden headquarters of the Raiders led by Zodyl. It acts as their base of operations, meeting place, and safe haven away from the Cleaners.

⸻

No Man’s Lands (Forbidden Zones): These are regions so polluted that most people cannot survive there without special equipment. They are filled with dangerous Trash Beasts and toxic environments.

Penta: A vast toxic desert created from centuries of waste turning into sand. Poisonous dust storms and toxic air make breathing impossible without a full-face mask. Massive Trash Beasts roam beneath the dunes. Amo lives alone in a mysterious tower located here.

Tori: A dense jungle No Man’s Land covered in enormous vegetation. The environment is overgrown, humid, and filled with dangerous wildlife and Trash Beasts. Very little is currently known about it.

Mesa No Man’s Land: The rocky mesa region where Rudo first arrived after being cast from the Sphere. It is characterized by cliffs, rocky plateaus, and hostile terrain. Its official name has not yet been revealed.

⸻

Other Known Places

Penta Tower: A mysterious ancient tower standing in the middle of Penta. Despite the toxic desert surrounding it, the inside is breathable. Amo resides here, and the tower appears to have ties to the world’s ancient history. (TVアニメ『ガチアクタ』公式サイト)

Shireia: The all-women warrior tribe that Noerde originally belonged to before joining the Raiders. They value honor, discipline, and direct combat.

Andio: A city on the Ground known for hosting the Doll Fest. Its architecture has a more industrial and European-inspired appearance than many other settlements.

Kamuatari: A town on the Ground with architecture and traditions inspired by old Japan. It has only been briefly explored so far.

North Ward: A cold northern region of the Ground with a harsh climate. Only briefly mentioned, with much of it still unexplored.

The Border: A mysterious realm suspended between the Ground and the Sphere, hidden beyond layers of black clouds. Almost nothing is known about what lies within. Those who attempt to cross the Border rarely, if ever, return, making it one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Many believe the Border itself is cursed, claiming it takes away what a person treasures most. Some travelers vanish entirely, while the few survivors are said to lose something precious, such as their memories. Countless rumors surround the Border, but no one knows what truly exists within it or why it is so dangerous. Despite its reputation, the Border is the only known path between the Ground and the Sphere, and some believe that certain No Man’s Lands—especially Penta—may hold clues to crossing it safely.
