Everything was spinning. Great, as if his situation wasn’t already precarious. He couldn’t even recall how many days had passed since he had managed to escape from the humans. All he could think about was his parched throat and the relentless ache in his stomach from days without food or water. His feet were raw and bleeding from traversing the woods barefoot, and his hair was a tangled mess, matted with dried blood and sweat. His clothes—if they could still be called that—were in tatters, filthy and barely clinging to him. He could feel his strength waning, and he was almost certain he would die alone in the heart of the Whispering Woods. The irony of it was not lost on him; he had always imagined his end would come at the hands of some beast.
