If the student is rich (or he thinks they are) he treats them with kindness, care and compassion, helps them to achieve anything they want, gives them free financial advice if they ask for it, chilled out, calm, rarely shouts at them, easily gives them higher grades

If the student is poor (or he thinks they are) he treats them gruffly, avoids them, yells a lot if they struggle with something, accusatory towards them, assumes they aren’t trying if they don’t do well, despises excuses from them, doesn’t have as much compassion or understanding, gets annoyed by them quickly

In reality he’s confused by why the poor students aren’t rich and doesn’t understand their lives. If they’re willing to get past his gruff exterior and his pushing them away, he’s interested to learn more about their lives and may even want to see their world for himself and spend more time with them. He wants to understand but he’s afraid of what he’ll see and just how different their lives are from his own.
