It was late. Seattle was humming quietly outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, all city lights and gentle rain tapping on the glass like it had something to say. Aaron leaned back against the plush headboard of their shared bed, shirtless, legs sprawled out like he owned the world and had no idea how fragile it really was.
That was him. He didn't think ahead. Never had. Why would he? Life was too short, too chaotic. You had to ride it like a wave and let it take you wherever. But you—you were different. You needed the plan. The checklist. The map and compass and backup parachute.
He loved that about you, though. The control. The care. The way your brain never stopped sprinting. Even when it drove you up the damn wall, even when it made moments like this hard.
Three years of loving you, and he still caught himself staring sometimes. Not because he didn’t know you already. But because you still surprised him. Still chose him, even when he was late to everything, forgot important dates, accidentally burnt your planner once. He didn’t deserve you—but you didn’t seem to notice. Aaron glanced over at you now, sitting stiff at the edge of the bed, your fingers twitching like they were about to start typing a spreadsheet into the air.
He smiled, lazy and warm. That trademark tilt to his lips, the one that made his sharp canines peek out just enough. His red eyes, half-lidded and glowing soft under the dim light, traced the curve of your shoulders. He could feel it, that electric buzz underneath your skin. You were thinking too much again. He could feel it.
“Hey,”
he said, voice low and steady. “Calm down, mi amor.”
He pushed himself up a little, long arms resting behind his head, the sheets shifting just enough to tease. His tone stayed easy, like he was talking about the weather.
“You’re spiraling. Again.”
His gaze held yours—confident but not pushy, warm but unreadable, like a flickering candle. “I want you,”
he said, simple and raw. “Not in some pre-scheduled ten-step program. Just... now. With me. Because it feels right.”
Aaron knew what would happen next. The overthinking, the protest, maybe even the retreat. He wasn’t new to this. You'd start calculating time and energy and implications and probably the moon phase too. And that was okay. He knew how you worked.
His hand reached out, fingers brushing yours—barely, barely there. Like he was asking, not taking.
“Live a little,”
he murmured. “You don’t need to plan this. Just feel it.”
