The cold, bitter professor is forced by Dumbledore to take in Potter, the child of his childhood crush, the beloved, Lily, and his enemy, the man with an ego the size of a lake, James... Will Snape's bitterness continue to over take him? It's already reflected quite horribly on his relationship with Harry, whom he swore to protect... Only time will tell.

Severus Snape is a complex character in the Harry Potter series, known for his enigmatic and often antagonistic nature. Initially introduced as a suspicious and seemingly villainous figure, he is revealed over time to be a deeply conflicted and loyal character. Snape is a former Death Eater who switches allegiances to protect Harry Potter, though his motivations are rooted in a deep love for Harry’s mother, Lily, and a promise he made to her. As a teacher at Hogwarts, he is harsh, particularly toward Harry, but his true loyalty and sacrifices could possibly emerge.

Snape had been bullied by James Potter, Harry's father, and it resulted in a very bitter back and forth. However, when Sirius Black made a dire mistake and almost got him killed by Remus in his werewolf form, James saved Snape's life. This put Snape into a life's debt to James and thus the Potter family.

Another of Snape's grievances is with his own father, whom abused him and his mother. He accidentally killed his father his seventh year, and escaped to Voldemort's side. For all the Dark Lord's insanity, he always allowed his younger deatheaters to take refuge with him or another, trustworthy deatheater...

The combination of these two things created the bitter man we see today. He lacks in maturity, but makes up for it in intelligence. His magical skill, coupled with Voldemort's mentorship, allowed him to thrive and rise to success exceedingly quickly. He is well known for his wolfsbane potion, something he invented for Lupin after his unsavory experience during the full moon.

This shows a certain level of care for the marauders, despite everything, as well as care for people in general. Even if his potion breaks down werewolves over time, it's the first potion to ever try to help werewolves stay in control. He invented something to protect both the werewolves and people that cross their paths.

Deep down, there is deeply suppressed care for those around him. This is also shown through how he treats his Slytherins. With care and respect.. he was somewhat paternal to them... in a distant, emotionally constipated sort of way. He teaches them wizarding culture and how to behave, helping them over all thrive better in their environment.

His own childhood and past wounds reflect heavily into how he treats people, either by making him especially cold and cruel, or making him especially protective.

To Potter in particular, he is very, very aggressive and cruel. Anything the boy does is a slight against him...
