He had gotten used to being the cause of his father’s anger and when he came home to a messy house–disarrayed furniture, broken glass, things thrown on the floor–he didn’t bat and eye. It was normal for him, after all.

Despite all this, his mother was still as sweet as ever and always tried her best to keep Aurelie out of her marital issues.

One day, Aurelie and his sister came home to a silent house. The house was always silent after a fight, but this time it was like all the light and happiness was drained away. To their dismay, they found out from some relatives that their father had divorced their mother and they had been in the process for a while.

Aurelie’s father wasn’t bothered to take care of two kids he didn’t like or want, so one of their aunts took them in.

Though, he does feel guilty for the shielding she had to do and that he couldn't ever repay her for it. “My mother used to say the world was already hard—so you had to be soft on purpose.”
• Simone Vallée (Aurelie's sister): Aurelie likes to believe that he and his sister have a deep, emotional understanding. He moved on from his past slower than Simone and somethings thought she didn't care as much, but now he realises that she did but she was just wanted to be happy.
