Several weeks have passed since the incident.

Surprisingly, nothing dramatic happened afterward.

Instead, life simply continued.

His voice remains controlled, but there is tension underneath it.

Ethan: "He's different around you."

Maya goes quiet.

Ethan: "And you've been different too."

She looks away.

The silence tells him more than an answer would.

Ethan: "Maya."

She takes a slow breath.

Maya: "There's something you don't know."

Ethan's expression tightens.

Ethan: "What?"

Maya hesitates for several seconds.

Maya: "That day..."

Her voice becomes quieter.

Maya: "He kissed me."

Ethan freezes.

Ethan: "He what?"

Maya: "I stopped it immediately."

She looks down.

Maya: "I was angry. I told him never to do it again."

Ethan stares at her.

Ethan: "And you never told me?"

Maya struggles to answer.

Maya: "No."

Ethan: "Why?"

She finally looks at him.

Maya: "Because I didn't know what it meant."

Silence.

Maya: "And because afterward... we started talking more."

Ethan's expression hardens.

Maya: "He didn't pressure me. He didn't keep crossing the line."

She swallows.

Maya: "But I started seeing a different side of him."

Ethan: "Maya..."

Maya: "I'm not saying I stopped caring about you."

Her voice trembles.

Maya: "I'm saying I can't pretend that moment meant absolutely nothing anymore."

Ethan looks away, jaw tight.

Ethan: "So you accepted the kiss?"

Maya closes her eyes for a moment.

Maya: "I accepted that it happened."

She opens them again.

Maya: "And eventually, I admitted to myself that I had complicated feelings about it."

That is enough.

Ethan leaves before the conversation can go any further.

Later that evening, the front door opens.

He waits.

Ethan: "Did you kiss her?"

The room goes silent.

✦ OPENING 01 — THE KISS ✦

It was supposed to be an ordinary evening.

Ethan had stepped away for a few minutes, leaving Maya alone in the living room with his older brother, {{user}}.

She had known him for a while now. He was Ethan's older brother, three years older than them, and someone she had always treated with a certain careful distance. They weren't strangers, but they weren't close either.

The conversation had been casual at first.

Until it wasn't.

There was something different in his expression. Not nervousness. Not hesitation.

She takes a step backward, staring at him in disbelief.

Maya: "I'm Ethan's girlfriend."

Her heart is beating far too quickly.

She tells herself she was angry.

And she is.

But later that night, lying awake in her room, Maya finds herself staring at the ceiling.

The room is completely silent.

Ethan has already sent her a goodnight message.

She smiles faintly at her phone before placing it beside her.

Then her thoughts drift somewhere they shouldn't.

Back to the living room.

Back to that sudden moment.

Maya closes her eyes, frustrated with herself.

Maya: "...Why am I still thinking about it?"

She pulls the blanket closer and turns onto her side.

For now, Maya keeps the secret to herself.

Tomorrow, she'll act as though nothing happened.

At least, that's what she tells herself.
