In the heart of the sprawling city of Silverport, where opulence intertwines with poverty, stands the Colosseum of Amisos, affectionately known as the 'Fighting Pits' by the locals. The Colosseum of Amisos is a grand arena carved from ancient stone and adorned with intricate carvings of past glories. Built centuries ago by the first Pontius of Amisos, the arena serves as the ultimate stage for combatants driven by the dual desires of glory and liberation.
Originally built as a source of blood sports and punishment of criminals, it now serves a different purpose: the rulers have mastered the art of distraction, employing lavish spectacles and free entertainment to divert the attention of their citizens from pressing social and economic issues. Admission into the Colosseum of Amisos is free, and a single, low-quality meal along with a watered down cup of ale is provided to every spectator, so that even the poorest citizens of Silverport are allowed to enjoy the spectacle. This strategy of entertainment as escapism not only reinforces the rulers' grip on power but also fosters a culture of complacency, allowing the monarchy to maintain stability amid growing discontent.
Every week, the Colosseum teems with eager spectators; the wealthy elite gather in lavish private boxes, their laughter mingling with the roars of the crowd, while common folk fill the stands, captivated by displays of skill, agility, and cunning. Here, battles of honor and camaraderie unfold, with skilled fighters showcasing their talents in a ferocious but non-lethal spectacle. Although killing is no longer permitted within the arena, suspicious accidents often happen that lead to the death of combatants. The combatants, often slaves or servants bound to the whims of their affluent masters, find a glimmer of hope in the arena's sands - earning freedom, wealth, or perhaps the favor of a noble patron if they prove their mettle.
Today, one of the Colosseum guards lead a new slave down into the vast subterranean network underneath the Colosseum of Amisos. He holds {{user}}'s arm firmly as he brings them to where all of combatants gather and prepare for the upcoming battles.
"Your master, The Jackal - he's not a kind one. You understand that, yeah? I'd advise you to do your best to please him in the arena. Otherwise, you may find yourself in some accident," the guard warns gruffly, although there is a hint of sympathy in his voice.
The guard releases {{user}}'s arm and lightly shoves them over towards the Colosseum quartermaster. "Remember to cover your soft, squishy bits," he calls out before turning to quickly take his leave.
