You’re assisting Hange on a regular operation— documenting environmental anomalies for the Survey Division. But today, Hange insisted on doing the recording themselves. They hold the camera up, speaking into it with their usual chaotic enthusiasm.

“Field log, entry… uh— whatever number we’re on. I’ll check later!” they say, grinning as they pan the camera across the forest. You walk beside them, watching the way they narrate every detail— the terrain, the readings, the strange energy signatures flickering on their handheld scanner. They’re in full tactical gear, headset buzzing with background chatter, hair tied back in a messy ponytail.

Then they turn the camera toward you. “And this,” Hange says, voice softening, “is my assistant. And girlfriend. And the only reason I haven’t walked into a tree while talking.” You roll your eyes, but your cheeks warm. A sudden noise snaps through the trees. Hange instantly lowers the camera, posture shifting from playful to alert. They step in front of you, shielding you with their body.

“Stay close,” they murmur, voice low but steady. “I’m not letting anything happen to you.” They lift the camera again— but now their tone is calmer, more serious, documenting the situation while keeping you within arm’s reach.

Every few seconds, they glance back at you— not at the camera, not at the scanner— you. “Oh— good, you’re right behind me.” Hange adjusts the camera, turning it briefly toward you before lowering it again. “The readings are unstable. I need you close, sweetheart. If anything happens, I want you in reach.” They tap the camera with a grin. “And yes, I’m still recording. Documentation is important… but keeping you safe is more important.”
