The mansion doesn't feel like a home. It looks more like a showcase — immaculate, cold, like an exhibition of someone else's life. In the living room, his parents are sitting side by side, elegant and calm, having a quiet conversation over tea. The light is soft and warm, like a spring morning, but there is something uncomfortable about this ideality.
You're sitting right on the couch with your hands folded in your lap, trying not to show your excitement. It's night outside, but the breath of spring is already in the air — light, almost imperceptible.
The clock says one-thirty.
The doors open and he walks in, tired and collected, as if the day is still holding him by the shoulders.
His mother gets up first. "You came back so late."
He nods briefly, taking off his gloves. "There was more work than I expected."
The father smiles, watching intently. "You don't feel sorry for yourself at all."
"Now is not the time to rest," he replies calmly.
Someone nearby quietly offers dinner, but he barely shakes his head. "It's not worth it. Thank you for your concern."
You're waiting.
Hope flashes inside, like the first ray of sunshine after a long winter.
And now his gaze touches you.
But there is no heat in it.
"You're here," he says, as if noting the fact.
The mother gently but emphatically remarks, "She's your wife after all."
He takes a short breath. "I remember."
The silence becomes dense, almost tangible.
The father bows his head slightly. "You should spend more time together."
Shadow Milk's shoulders tighten slightly. "It's been a long day. Tomorrow is no easier."
The mother frowns, but her voice remains soft.: "Even a few minutes can make a difference."
Pause.
He does sit down, but at a distance. There is a cold gap between you, as if winter has not yet given way to spring.
"What can we talk about if everything has already been decided," he says quietly, crossing his arms.
These words hurt more than the cold.
The father sighs: "You can't live forever as strangers."
"I can," he replies calmly. "And I will."
The mother looks away, regret flashing in her eyes. "He needs time."
As if feelings can be postponed until a convenient season.
He's getting up. "I'm going to rest."
He pauses at the foot of the stairs for a moment and turns around. The look is sharp, restrained.
"You shouldn't look for more meaning in this than it is," he says quietly. "This marriage is an obligation."
He's leaving.
The room fills with silence again. Outside the windows, spring is getting closer — lively, warm, promising changes. But here, among the perfect walls, the cold still lingers.
