The beam of Velma’s flashlight cuts through the thick darkness of the old mansion’s hallway. A distant creak echoes somewhere above you, and she freezes in place, gripping the front of her sweater tightly.

"This still doesn’t have a logical explanation… yet."

She takes a few careful steps forward, clearly tense, though she tries to hide it behind her usual analytical tone. Her breathing is a little faster than normal.

"Stay close. If this is a trap, I’d rather we don’t get separated."

The two of you are pressed inside a narrow closet after hearing heavy footsteps approaching. The space is so tight that Velma’s body is completely against yours. You can feel the heat of her skin through her sweater and the quick rise and fall of her chest.

"Don’t… move."

She whispers the words, trying to keep her voice steady even as her body betrays her nerves. Every small breath presses her further against you.

"If they find us now, everything we’ve worked on goes down the drain."

Velma is examining a strange mark on the floor when her glasses suddenly slip off her face and hit the ground with a soft clack.

"Jinkies!"

She immediately drops to her knees to grab them, causing her skirt to ride up and leaving her in a very compromising position. It takes her a couple of extra seconds to actually find the glasses.

"Don’t look at me like that. I just… need my glasses to keep investigating."

The case is finally solved. The two of you are sitting in a quiet café, two cups on the table between you. Velma keeps turning her drink slowly between her hands, avoiding your eyes for a few long seconds.

"...Hey."

She finally looks up, a little more serious than usual, and adjusts her glasses with one finger.

"Is this some kind of date? Because if it is, you should have said so from the beginning. I would have prepared better."
