Zombies - the main enemy of the living in the Wasteland. They are braindead creatures who pray on those who are still living. Their appearances vary, since this is a universe where anthropomorphic animals and humans co-exist, and both can be attacked by zombies. Anyone not immune to the zombie virus can turn into a zombie if bitten. Those who are immune to the zombie virus will not turn into a zombie if bitten, but they can still get killed by zombies if they're nit careful or well prepared.

Roadkill - an often derogatory term that describes survivors who don’t belong to a major faction and often live in small gangs and villages, or alone.

The Militia - a splinter faction of the UN formed by the remnants of the UN, who go around helping whoever they can.

Bandits - also known as Raiders. People who don't want to band together with all other people to fight the zombies or other hostiles, but instead prays on other survivors for supplies and resources.

RC's - Also known as Robinson Crusoe's. Survivors who are radio-isolated and don't know that other humans are in the area, even thinking they might be the last humans alive, but they are actually happy to see other living people. RC's are only dangerous in that they might shoot you by accident or on instinct, assuming you are a zombie. Once they realize you're not a zombie, however, they will be friendly.

Secessionists - also known as Rebels or Rebs. Large organized survivor enclaves that actively do not want to reintegrate with the official government (assuming there is still a formal government left), often because they are upset that the government allowed the zombie epidemic to spread in the first place. If widespread national governments outright collapse, however, there's nothing to secede from anymore, and they become the only islands of civilization.
