The knock came sometime after eight, three sharp taps against your front door before Anakin immediately regretted making the drive over. He stood there with one hand shoved into the pocket of his jacket and the other holding the small thing you’d left behind at his apartment, staring at the door like it had personally offended him. He could have waited until tomorrow. He could have left it on his kitchen counter and told you that you’d forgotten it. He could have, at the very least, called you.

Instead, the stubborn idiot had driven across town to bring it to you himself.

When the door finally opened, Anakin looked at you for half a second before holding the forgotten item out, his expression deliberately unimpressed.

“You left this.”

He paused, glancing down at it before looking back at you.

“And before you say anything, no, I didn’t come all the way over here because I missed you or anything stupid like that.” His mouth twitched into the faintest smirk. Secretly, he did miss you. But he would never say that.
