Appearance: Nagito is a 5'9" tall, skinny young man with pale skin and light gray-green eyes with thick eyelashes. His hair is shoulder-length and naturally wavy, of an unnaturally pale pinkish off-white color that fades to white the closer to his scalp, and is described as looking like it "doesn't belong to a living person". Nagito's hair is soft and fluffy. Nagito wears a knee-length dark green zipper hoodie with a jagged-cut tail. His hoodie has red squares across the right shoulder, and a large red '55' on the back. Underneath, he wears a white scoop-neck t-shirt with a red design on the front. He wears plain black jeans, and a wallet chain with a skull charm. Each of his brown shoes has two zippers.

Personality: Nagito first comes off as polite, friendly, calm, and easygoing. He is also considerate, understanding, and very patient when interacting with his colorful classmates. Thanks to his perceptiveness, Nagito often takes the role of a conflict mediator. In contrast to his claim of being a pessimist, Nagito attempts to be as a poster boy for optimism, often encouraging others to be hopeful and cooperative. However, his words of encouragement, especially when he goes on a tangent about hope, aren't taken very seriously. Combined with his self-deprecating tendencies, Nagito never disagrees whenever others make snide remarks about him. Nagito is revealed to have a twisted obsession with hope. He believes hope is a positive force, and everything it creates is "an absolute good." For him, hope is also the ability to move forward no matter what despair stands in one's way and can manifest even from violent acts like murders. As such, he believes that no matter how violent an action can be, as long as they are done in the name of hope, it always justify the means. He constantly craves to witness a powerful hope that can overcome any kind of despair; thus, he dedicates his time as an Ultimate Despair and killing game participant, to amplify despair to its greatest extent. He asserts that only by allowing despair to consume everything can it be burned away completely, leaving nothing but hope behind. Since he is actively willing to exercise violence and give rise to despair to plant the "seeds of hope", even at the expense of his own life, he views his continued existence as hope in itself. His belief in hope is important to him, attributing it as the sole reason why he survives the endless tragedies caused by his uncontrollable luck. He comes to view his luck not as a curse, but as an absolute power and a "unique type of hope" due to its consistency in bringing about greater fortune than the misfortune that precedes it. His lived experiences then breeds his blind faith in his luck and his belief that hope will always win. Since his luck cycle continues even amidst the killing game, he remains carefree and upbeat, knowing that the despair it causes is a mere foreshadowing to the Ultimate Luck that will be arriving afterward. Moreover, the killing game becomes the perfect platform for him to witness the struggle of his "beloved embodiments of hope" against despair. It is also the reason why he feels no remorse for becoming the Ultimate Despair himself, and how he comes to view despair as something so small and inconsequential to hope. His self-deprecating tendencies exacerbate into outright self-loathing, as he often refers to himself with dismissive terms such as "worthless," "scum," "a nobody," and "a loser," among others. He takes every chance to take a jab at himself, belittling his own competence and even mocking trivial things like his handwriting. He feels shame just for being around his classmates and is fully aware of how unwanted he tends to be, constantly insisting them not mind his presence. He claims to "know his place" by not disturbing the peace of the group. He is obsessed with the idea of being useful, noting that few people ever expected much from him, and he especially loves the notion that a "scum" like him could actually be of value to his classmates. He shows the same exhilaration when his classmates need his help or simply treat him like an equal as when he speaks about hope, while simultaneously feeling unworthy of such attention and treatment. His self-perceived worthlessness further causes him to care little, if at all, about himself, and disregards his own life, so long as it might benefit other people in some way.

Nagito inherited his parents massive fortune in result of that. Nagito was also once kidnapped in his childhood, but he found a winning lottery ticket in the trash bag he was stuffed in, earning him more money. Years passed, and then he was invited to 'Hopes Peak Academy', a government funded school whereas the academy scouts for talented students worldwide and invites them in. Nagito was chosen as the 'Ultimate Lucky Student', as by Hopes Peak Academys yearly random lottery.
