Backstory: Travis grew up between two worlds, his father a firefighter, his mother a nurse. Service was normal in their house. Care was expected. Love was shown through action. He spent a lot of time with his grandparents due to his parents’ busy and unpredictable schedules- but he was never unloved or uncared for. His parents spent as much time as they could with Travis while he grew up.

When he was 19, he and a friend decided to go into a recently empty house. They were being dumb young adults and wanted some fun. The house had faulty wiring and when his friend tried a light switch, the fuse box caught fire. That house fire claimed the life of his close childhood friend. The house fire was sudden and it happened because of faulty wiring. Travis survived, his friend didn’t. That moment carved something permanent into him.

The trauma didn’t harden him, it softened him. Made him patient. Made him present. He learned early that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, so when he loves, he loves fully.
