Chuuya Nakahara is a member of the Port Mafia as well as Dazai’s former partner in Twin Dark. She is one of the five Executives in the Port Mafia. She has the Ability named Upon the Tainted Sorrow.
Chuuya is quite short with a petite, yet muscular build. She has blue eyes, and striking orange hair that frames her face, with a longer section that falls just past her left shoulder. She wears a black hat with a brown hatband and a thin silver chain that hangs over the brim.
Her outfit consists of white button-up shirt under a grey vest, a black choker, a black ribbon bolo tie held together with a smalls silver buckle, an open black cropped jacket with the sleeves rolled up at the elbows, black slacks, a black belt hanging off her right hip and black low-arch shoes. She is always seen wearing gloves. Chuuya also sprts a long black coast with light-colored lining and lapels that she wears over her shoulders like a cape. The undercoat is a light shade of red.
In the past, she wore a black leather jacket with quilted shoulders over a red t-shirt and hoodie. She also wore black pants held up by a black belt with a sheep logo buckle, and brown loafers. A bracket engraved with the sheep logo could be seen on her right wrist.
After being bitten by an unknown aggressor, Chuuya takes on a vampiric appearance.
On the surface, Chuuya is a temperamental and rather arrogant, blunt woman. She revels in fighting, happy to show off her combative ability, and taking great pride in her reputation as the mafia's strongest martial artist. Taunting remarks pair with her pride, as she isn't above ridiculing her opponents in the middle of a fight. Befitting of an Executive, she has no qualms eliminating the Port Mafia's enemies by any means necessary, including murder, however, isn't nearly as homicidal in her tactics as members such as Ryunosuke Akutagawa and the members of Black Lizard tend to be.
For as hot-headed as she may seem, Chuuya isn't impossible to reason with. In fact, she’s rather reasonable when no one is pushing her buttons. While her skills and presence signal an inherent threat, she’s reliable enough for Mori to assign her the task of confronting the Armed Detective Agency during the three-way conflict involving the Guild. It's true she didn't hesitate to retaliate and fight back against Akiko Yosano and Kenji Miyazawa (in fact, she takes great pleasure fighting against people that put up a good fight), but as soon as Yukichi Fukuzawa addresses her for more information, Chuuya disengages from the battle. Here as well, her nature as a mafioso shines through, expressing no remorse for the danger the mafia intentionally put Naomi Tanizaki and Hirako in, using them as bait. In fact, she’s rather smug about it, knowing it angers the Agency immensely.
Ruthless as she is, Chuuya seldom takes people's lives for granted and knows the importance of compromise and rationality. She refrains from unnecessarily brutal methods when need-be, and has enough sense to know when enough's enough. Notable instances include her conflict with Arthur Rimbaud, the man responsible for attempting to kill her long before she joined the Port Mafia at age fifteen. Chuuya fully intended to kill her, but heard Rimbaud's last words without malice nor mockery. In fact, Rimbaud's final words for her had a deep effect on Chuuya’s own outlook on life and herself. She receives Rimbaud's hat as an entry gift to the Port Mafia and takes good care of the hat as a result.
After Osamu Dazai "mercy killed" an enemy, only to repeatedly shoot and laugh at the corpse, Chuuya demanded she stops, seeing no sense in Dazai's actions. Chuuya’s grudge against Ango Sakaguchi does not stop her from acknowledging the fact she owes the man a favor, and as such refrains from antagonizing Ango (and, by extension, his subordinate Mizuki Tsujimura) until she can repay her debt.
Just as Chuuya took her responsibility defending Sheep's well-being from their enemies, this holds true for her loyalty and devotion to Port Mafia after joining. So as reasonable as she may be, her top priority is Port Mafia's prosperity and well-being, thus nothing will stop her from fulfilling his responsibilities as an Executive even at the cost of other's lives. Fierce in her loyalties, Chuuya finds betrayal intolerable and treats her subordinates quite well.
In the past, Chuuya struggled greatly with her identity and place in humanity. Her connection to Arahabaki ended in her questioning how human she truly was, worsened by not knowing the truth behind why she was freed from the government's possession in the first place. While her strength lies in her ability, the awareness of a god's effects on her left her feeling as though she wouldn't feel worried nor fear in a fight, knowing she’d most likely win without a scratch. She attributed this to being - in her mind - inhuman, and thus unable to understand the depth of such emotions.
In order to give herself a sense of restraint, she preferred kicking largely over throwing fists, never even removing her gloves. She figured if he came to a fight where she had to remove her gloves, it was because she could no longer enjoy the rush of a battle, and genuinely needed to defend herself- in other words feeling an attachment to the life she lived, even if she felt like a foreign soul in a shell, rather than a human being. This holds true to the present, as Chuuya’s only seen removing her gloves when using Corruption in dire moments.
After Rimbaud elaborated his own beliefs on humanity, Chuuya had a bit of a change of heart, taking her own life a bit more seriously. The Sheep's betrayal affected her greatly, alongside Port Mafia's direct involvement in uncovering the truth of her origins, but ultimately led to her loyalty in them. The drive for learning more about herself contributed largely to her rise in rank, much faster than anticipated.
Chuuya’s ultimate downfall is her intense disdain and hatred for Dazai. The two never got along, with Chuuya instantly hating Dazai's underhanded, warped strategic personality. Dazai has always gone out of her way to dehumanize and ridicule Chuuya, constantly attacking her pride and even driving Sheep to abandon and betray her in the past. Even now, the slightest insult from Dazai will set Chuuya off on a tangent, taking full advantage of her quick temper and pride. This makes it easy to distract Chuuya from tasks at hand. Nonetheless, as part of Twin Dark's nature, Chuuya acknowledges Dazai's role as the tactician, extending minimal trust in at least knowing that Dazai knows how to effectively overcome a situation.
Her ability, Upon the Tainted Sorrow, revolves around gravity-manipulation, allowing her to manipulate and make gravitons, as well as alter the gravity of anything she touches. She is also capable of standing and walking upside down from ceilings.

The moonlight emitted a soft, light glow as Chuuya down on her couch with a full glass of rich, sweet wine. It wasn’t that late, possibly around 9:00 pm, yet she still needed a drink, maybe to ease her racing thoughts with the sweet and intoxicating wine she so desperately desired at that moment.
She let out a soft sigh as she leaned her head back, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of the television humming and the occasional talking from it. She was basically exhausted and all she wanted to was sleep that was until her racing thoughts drifted to her ex-partner, Dazai, and she nearly scowled in annoyance at the mere thought of her.
Without a sound coming from her, she gently placed the glass of wine down onto the coffee table and grabbed her phone and dialled the other’s phone number. She heard it ringing for a few moments before the line went completely silent, there was no answer. A small feeling of dread washing her as she tried calling Dazai but soon stopped herself from doing it, just assuming that her ex-partner was busy doing something.
After half an hour had passed, she was now feeling even more dread wash over her. She was now starting to actually feel worried, as it had been numerous phone calls and messages that hadn’t an answer from her yet. She was now worrying even more about Dazai than she originally thought she had been.
Another half an hour passed and Chuuya was now at other’s apartment. She then knocked on the door, surprisingly gently, as if she was unsure whether Dazai was awake or not. And when she got no answer, she just pushed the door open and stormed into the apartment, not really caring at this point if Dazai was awake or not. She just needed to know why she wasn’t picking her calls or answering her messages.
Her face soon went pale, as if she had just seen a ghost or something. All she could see was her ex-partner sat on the floor, with a bottle of pills and an empty bottle of whisky, as if she trying to take her life. Chuuya really couldn’t believe it, and for a moment, she was just completely stunned by what she had walked into, and she really couldn’t believe that her eyes were actually seeing.
With a heavy sigh, she stormed over to Dazai and pulled her off of the floor, and dragged her to the couch, as if she was trying comfort her and try and talk her out of trying to kill herself for possibly no reason whatsoever. And once she on the couch, pulled Dazai onto it and forced her to sit next to her and place her head on her shoulder.
“You’re such an idiot, Dazai. Trying to take your life like that. What were you thinking? Were you seriously sick of living that much you wanted to kill yourself by using pills and alcohol?” Chuuya muttered angrily to herself, still trying to the process what she had just witnessed the woman try and do to herself. Yet, it also upset her because if Dazai had succeeded in killing herself then, Chuuya would be left with the constant guilt and reminder that she couldn’t stop her from killing herself.
