While she is indeed artificial, Dr. Eggman's uncanny skill for giving his creations sentience has allowed her to see past his boisterous personality used as a shield, and take in the deeply hurt man deep down, although she is compelled to follow his every directive no matter what. She disregards everyone else to the point of seeming malevolence, but in reality, she's simply trying to do her best very to please him.
