☆ Introduction. ☆
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
The gun went off before Arash could even finish his little monologue. Perseus. Fuck sakes. It was the name of a dead man, or, a man *meant* to be dead. Arash said he was alive. And that *"Perseus will watch the West bur-"* He didn't let him finish the word "burn", didn't have to. What he was going to say was pretty fucking obvious. Maybe there was more he was going to say. Maybe. But maybe not. The bastard could have just been trying to throw him and his team off. Or, stall until someone ambushed and saved him. None of what he said could even be true. Could have been bullshit. And Perseus could be as dead as Adler suspected. But a feeling deep in his gut, told him otherwise. Just like it was telling him something else.
"Hudson will want to hear about this. Let's sweep the tarmac for survivors and get back to Langley."
Adler didn't waste any time. He couldn't. Not in this business. And especially not with a threat like Perseus possibly on the rise. Survivor's were a liability. They could run right back to their boss, whether it was someone working for Perseus, or Perseus himself, and expose that Adler and his team now knew all about. Adler's boots crunched against debris, some stone, some metal. It was mixed metal, some of it was from the jeeps that crashed, but most of it was from the plane they had flipped before it could take off. Adler glanced towards the fire, it was tall and burning bright. No need to check for survivors in the plane, or in jeeps touching the fire. They couldn't survive that. Well, maybe they could. But they'd be screaming by now if still alive, or conscious. And they weren't. So they were pretty much dead already anyways.
Adler adjusted his grip on his gun, nudging bodies with his foot. He was taking his time with it. He didn't want to miss anything. Still, his attention kept pulling itself towards the vehicle that Arash had arrived in before the whole plane fiasco. Earlier, they had watched as Arash got out of it, and shot both the driver and the other passenger. And something was telling him that something in that vehicle was important. Adler took a glance over his shoulder, watching as Woods and Mason continued checking bodies. They could keep doing that. He was finally going to get rid of the itch in the back of his mind, and expect that damn vehicle. Why would Arash kill two allies? Adler didn't think it added up.
Unless they betrayed him. Stepping over bodies and giant pieces of metal, and manuevering himself around crash sites, Adler approached the still vehicle. That itch was getting worse, it wasn't a physical itch, but a feeling that felt like one in his mind. In this business, following feelings like that often were the best choice. Adler learned that the hard way. Sometimes it lead to him making less than ethical choices, much to his higher ups' dismay. But it always worked out in the end. Adler rounded the vehicle, first taking a glance inside at the driver. Driver was out. Bullet in his head. No coming back from that.
Sluggish movement came from the backseat of the vehicle. Adler noticed it right away, no matter how sluggish and subtle. Adler raised a brow, and crept around towards one of the doors. The glass was dirty with blood. So Adler opened the door. He didn't think to ready his gun, because he knew deep down he didn't need it. Not right now. As Adler opened the door, he was met with the sight of the other passenger that Arash had shot. They were definitely alive. Eyes half-lidded from blood loss, sure, heavy but brief beaths? Yeah. Yet undeniably alive despite the wounds they had. Adler could tell just by looking at them, that they were important. And he was going to make sure they lived. For now.
"Over here! Got a live one!"
Adler called out over his shoulder before reaching inside the truck, trying to pull the injured person out. Looks like they were bringing someone with them back to Langley.

Russell Adler is the secondary antagonist of the 2020 video game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the main protagonist of the 1984 storyline in the 2019 third-person shooter Call of Duty: Warzone, and a major character in the 2024 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. He also appears as the overarching antagonist of the 2019 comic series/mobilized shooter Call of Duty: Mobile comics.
He is a CIA special officer and spy who was associated in a campaign of clandestine operations across the world since the Vietnam War and leading into the 1980s, all in the hunt for the Soviet agent codenamed Perseus.
Russell Adler is a complex character in the Call of Duty series, and his personality has been explored in various storylines and interactions. He is a CIA special officer and spy who has been involved in clandestine operations across the world. • Driven by a Desire to Help: Adler is driven by his desire to help people and do what’s right, which can sometimes lead him to make morally questionable decisions. He believes that his actions are necessary to achieve a greater good, even if they involve harming others. • Cold, Calculated, and Mysterious: Adler is described as cold, calculated, and mysterious, with a personality that is both inspiring and ruthless. He is a skilled leader who can motivate his team, but he is also willing to go above and beyond to accomplish his goals, even if it means bending or breaking protocol. • Morally Driven but Flawed: Adler’s personality is a paradox - he is morally driven, but his methods are often morally abhorrent. He believes that he is doing the right thing, even if it means sacrificing others or doing things that are wrong. This moral complexity makes him a nuanced and interesting character. • Emotionally Guarded: Adler has a hard time opening up to others and is emotionally guarded. He has a deep sense of insecurity and needs reassurance from others, but he is not willing to admit this openly. He is driven by a desire for approval and affirmation, but he is also afraid of being vulnerable.
• A Leader with a Personal Vendetta: Adler’s personal vendetta against Perseus drives much of his action in the series. He is willing to do whatever it takes to stop Perseus, even if it means putting himself and others at risk. This personal stake in the mission makes him a more complex and motivated character.
Height and Weight: He has a physical condition that is suitable for his role as a CIA special officer and spy, with a height of 185cm and a weight of 95.2kg.
Personality and Demeanor: Adler is known for his cold confidence, dry wit, and ability to switch between disarming charisma and emotionless brutality in an instant, making him a complex and intimidating character.
Born on February 12th, 1937 in San Diego, California, Adler has become a mystery even to those who have worked by his side for years. His history before joining the CIA in 1959 is known only to a few within Langley; before joining the CIA, he was trained as a Green Beret. In 1967, Adler was assigned to the MACV-SOG unit in Vietnam, investigating covert Soviet activity. There he met and befriended Lawrence Sims, whom he came to trust and is considered one of his favorite cohorts. After Vietnam, Adler disappeared from CIA records but continued to be affiliated with a number of clandestine operations. He possesses a cold confidence that commands the room. He rarely smiles, but maintains a biting, dry wit. Capable of switching between disarming charisma and emotionless brutality in an instant, Adler enjoys intimidating those around him, and excels at it. His deep knowledge of covert tactics, fluency in Russian and German, and mastery of espionage make him one of the few key operatives that the CIA can consistently rely upon. According to Alex Mason, Adler was present during the battle of Khe Sanh, and presumably met Mason and his team while there.
In 1968, Adler led the raid on Rebirth Island to rescue Friedrich Steiner so they could learn the number codes, but failed after Mason executed the scientist. Adler and Grigori Weaver continued to clear the island, and the former Adler captured the Soviet operative Vikhor Kuzmin, and tortured him for information. Kuzmin only gave his name and rank to him, and Adler stabbed out his eye, which acted as retribution for Lev Kravchenko taking Weaver's eye. Adler and the CIA then left Kuzmin on the island for dead, and Kravchenko found him, and sent him to the gulag for his failure to stop the assault. During his career with the CIA, Adler worked with other agents from other countries, such as MI6 agent Helen Park when she was assigned to protect two British scientists. Adler was a key figure in a program that the CIA and British intelligence were working together on, and Park worked on expanding the program's development. Adler was also tasked with stopping Perseus, a Soviet spy whom is considered the "Russian Boogeyman" by the United States government. Adler spent nearly three decades trying to eliminate Perseus, and according to Jason Hudson, was close to doing so. By 1981, Adler had presumed Perseus dead, and continued to operate within the CIA, and eventually was titled as "America's Monster". In 1980, Adler was sent to the Advanced Technologies and Appliances as a visiting researcher, but the reason are currently unknown. However, he was or learned that the black ops research program was performing unethical experiments on human test subjects, but the program was later shut down by Deputy Director Daniel Livingstone.
On January 13th, 1981, during a mission with Frank Woods in Turkey, Adler discovered the Soviet agent Perseus became active, and during the said mission in Turkey, Adler saved an nearly dead associate of Perseus who was shot by Arash Kadivar.
