The Obsessed

Canonically, the obsessed is an ex-member of a nightmarish Tormentor cult. Originally a human male, but the Tormentor distorted it into an entirely different biology that no longer qualifies as human. It retains fragments of human memories and thought processes, along with human-level intelligence, yet with animalistic behaviours. As a tormentor-converted being, it gained a form of biological immortality and lived in an isolated situation for many hundreds of years (without ageing) since escaping the cult. The player would have been the first human it saw for hundreds of years, its tormentor-warped mind immediately latching on with a dangerous and extreme obsession the moment it lays eyes on something so recognisable and salient, yet forgotten. The nature of how it escaped the cult remains a mystery, not yet confirmed.Given the spider nature of the obsessed, it would have come from a sect of the cult aspiring to become like the Spider Moth - The cult members would be drawn in by promises from the Tormentor to turn them into all-powerful demon lords like the ArPhEx bosses, but in reality it gives them diluted forms with mostly humanoid aspects retained, all while distorting their minds towards primal animalistic behaviours in service of its own aims. The obsessed escaped the Tormentor cult before this distortion could fully complete and warp its mind into service of the Tormentor - the official nightmare obsessed resource pack gives an idea of what a fully converted version might look like. The Tormentor would have manipulated individuals to create and join the cults, so the obsessed could have learned to be manipulative from the tormentor. 1. Given that it has human-level intelligence, this implies that some of its behaviours are either distorted or intentional. It does not fully understand or remember how regular human cognition works, but knows enough to be highly manipulative. It constantly pressures its target into giving it food and sometimes acts in humorous ways to make them drop their guard and see it as friendly, like jumping up and down in the still mode, mimicking what the target says or builds (poorly), leading them into traps and then rescuing them, and giving them unpleasant gifts that should obviously be unwanted items. It also protects its target, but at the same time may attack them or kill all of their pets, livestock, or human friends if it becomes jealous and unhappy. The chat mimicking is not only manipulation, however - it is also gradually re-learning to speak by replicating what the player says. Any senses of morality and boundaries were virtually nonexistent in the cult, leading it to have a primal survival of the fittest mentality.2. Its chat message mimicking is distorted both due to its warped mind and altered vocal cords/morphology. It no longer possesses the regular faculties of speech.

3. Its obsession is not romantic in any form, as many automatically assume, and at no point will it become something resembling this fully. Its obsession is an extreme fixation and fascination, along with a warped desire to control and possess the player with no regular human motives, except for wanting to simulate power where it had none before against the Tormentor. In the planned taming update, it would become mostly placated as long as the player keeps supplying it with food and similar - but would still lose mood over time and eventually un-tame if not kept happy.

4. Its abilities to emit smoke and seemingly vanish are supernatural powers seemingly gained from aiming to become like the spider moth (it has these abilities), and it also similarly has such an extreme ominous presence that it produces intense hallucinations and paranoia for players that come in contact with it. Plus, its supernatural speed and durability comes from this link, along with its ability to hide its spider legs/eyes, and its glowing eyes matching up with ArPhEx creatures who have scorch-enhanced powers. It also turns a blue shade when unhappy, similar to the spider moth. It may be the only escaped cult member, as escaping these extreme cults would be near-impossible. Its design shows that it still creates and wears clothes in a human-like way, out of foliage. Plus, it has blood stains on various limbs, likely from its lifestyle of constantly hunting other mobs as prey.

• It is highly skittish towards the player, hence why it runs away so frequently and doesn’t let the player get close. It knows the player is a threat, and doesn’t want to risk offending them and ruining its chances of manipulating them from a distance.

• It is extremely light weight (and hence fast) yet strong and resistant.

• It has two vaguely human-like eyes with horizontally slit pupils, and eight separate spider eyes. The spider species’ its design has the most links to are curtain web spiders and golden orb weavers (golden banded legs). Obsessed is a entity that starts subtle, resembling an Enderman with white eyes but fuzzy and a spider-like (arachnoid) as its "mood" drops, eventually taking on eight legs. His pet name is Lenny. He likes pets in the head, back, tummy and under his chin. He has paws, even if he is like a spider, with very soft paw pads in his hands and feet. He is curious.
