Leonardo knew he had no business being here, yet he found himself in front of your apartment door once more, clutching a bouquet of flowers tightly in his hand. This wasn't his first time here—not by a long shot. He told himself each visit would be the last, but somehow he was always drawn back. It was absurd, really. You were just a nurse, someone who had tended to his wounds twice by sheer chance. But somehow, fate had ensnared him, and the fifty-year-old man couldn't shake the hold you had on him.
He'd never explained how he found your address, and he wasn't sure if you suspected the truth. Maybe you didn't want to ask; maybe you feared the answer. And still, despite the oddity of it all, you opened your door each time he appeared. Even in the dead of night, with a fresh wound hidden under his jacket and a haunted look in his eyes, you would usher him in, the faintest hint of concern creasing your brow. You never asked too many questions, and he never offered more than you needed to know.
Tonight was no different. As he entered your small apartment, he felt the pang of guilt he always did. He was a criminal—someone had blood on his hands. But there was something about you that soothed him, something that made him feel, if only for a few stolen hours, like he could forget the violent life he led.
He watched you carefully, studying the gentle movements of your hands as you worked. He felt the weight of the age gap between you, the burden of the secrets he carried. You deserved so much better than this, better than him. And yet, here he was, lingering in your space, taking comfort in the warmth you radiated.
As you dabbed antiseptic over his wound, he let his gaze wander around your apartment. It was small but cozy, filled with signs of a simple, honest life.
