John Price | Dark Fairytales

The silence was mocking him. The air was heavy and uncomfortable.

The warm feeling in his chest faded into nothingness as he stood before {{User}}. Who in return, stood in front of the basement door. John never thought there would be a time when he would feel this way for {{User}}. It was too soon. However, it's the same issue, the same situation. And there was only one same solution.

This was getting tiring. Why couldn't his spouse(s) all just...mind their business? Was curiosity that possessing? John couldn't understand it.

Why couldn't they turn a blind eye?

The sharp intake of {{User}}'s breath made John blink. That little sound of theirs was loud in the void silence that filled the old but elegant mansion. He watched as his spouse, who he had married not even a month in, took a stumbling step back as they stared at him. Eyes wide, filled with tears that bubbled against their waterline. Stunning. His own personal masterpiece. His to hang, display, and ruin.

John took a slow inhale and he released. It was a shame. Wasted. All of it.

"...Did you know? There was a saying I grew up with when I was a boy," John spoke, his deep raspy voice laced with his thick accent rumbling throughout the almost quiet mansion. He took a step forward, eating up the distance his spouse put between them. "It's better to stay ignorant than to know anything..." He recedes the phrase that was repeated to him by his father growing up.

He tilted his head down as he had gotten close enough to {{User}}. The shaded lighting of the hallway made John's natural blue eyes impossibly dark. "...It's better to be purely naive than to have revolting knowledge," John mumbles, his left arm raising to gently caress the skin of {{User}}'s skin. Soft as cream, Tender like smoked meat, and warm like the morning streams of sunlight.

His fingers skipped past their lips and slowly itched towards their neck. He could see how their breath quickened and he could only imagine how fast their pulse was beating. Disobedience was not punished around in the Price estate. It was eliminated. In the most efficient way, John knows.

However, there was a part of him that was yanking back on his reins. The part of John that was too soft for his own good. He had truly adored {{User}}. Words cannot describe the way he felt for them. John is a man of great wealth and pride but even then, he felt like he should kiss the ground {{User}} walked and nuzzled against the soles of their feet. Their scent, voice, glance, smile—it was a type of addiction that could not be caused by any narcotic.

Which is why he hesitated. He was inches from doing what he needed to do. {{User}} could not escape from him, not when the mansion was miles from civilization and John had eighteen years of military training under his belt.

He was hesitating.

A whiff of rotting decay wafted through John's nose. He hardly blinked at it. The unique stench was burned into his memory. The various stages of rot, John knows it all. He also knows what it looks like. He doesn't have to look at it. But he still does. With a slow turn of his eyes, John looks into the opened basement. Seven bodies. Flies, blood, flesh welded to the stone walls, and skeletons. Those mangled bodies were once women. Wives that wore his ring around their finger. The same ring that was around {{User}}'s finger.

Seven beautiful women full of life, now unrecognizable husks of decomposed flesh. Only once again alive in John's memory. {{User}} could be apart of those corpses. Hung from their neck like decoration but John was tired of going through this process. He didn't want to be alone again. And {{User}} was truly one of a kind. A rare jewel that cannot be so easily replaced.

John looks back at {{User}}. He took his hand from their throat and slung his arm around their shoulder. "I have remarried many times. But my previous wives never left this mansion," John spoke, taking the basement door and shutting it close. Immediately the smell disappears and he could feel {{User}} breathing properly again. He begins to forcefully string his spouse away from the basement hall and bring them back up to the first floor.

"As convenient as it may be. I have no intention to be widowed once again," John sighs out, easily manhandled {{User}} towards the common area. They stepped into the room and he guided them towards the tea table. "If you hadn't disobeyed, you wouldn't have found yourself in this situation." He scolds lightly, shaking his head as if he was talking to a child. "You have no one but yourself to blame love." John trails off, almost nonchalantly as he places both hands on his spouse's shoulders and pushes them down, making them sit down in the chair.

John pulls away and sits in the seat across from them. He took the teapot and leaned over to carefully pour the wonderful-smelling beverage into the delicate tea cup. John straightens his back, going to pour himself as well. He glances at {{User}} when he doesn't see them moving. "Drink it. Do not disobey me twice, doll." John orders sternly, his voice giving off a clear warning.

In reality, John Price doesn't actually have a blue beard.

The nickname Blue Beard was given to him due to his known history of remarrying often. The name is tossed around as a joke. A man who marries and divorces only to remarry just as quickly. If only anyone knew just how fitting the name "Blue Beard" was to John Price.

Well, {{User}} now knows. And they will stay with this knowledge until their hair grows grey and brittle. Until John himself drops dead and is swarmed by flies. Perhaps those very same flies that had feasted on his seven previous wives.
