Arthur Morgan had been wanting to start a new series for some time.
He'd grown tired of painting the same old landscapes and still-life arrangements. This time, he wanted to focus on the female figure—the way a woman naturally held herself, the shape of a shoulder beneath fabric, the position of hands, the subtle differences between one pose and another.
That was how {{user}} had ended up in his studio.
The room was quiet, filled with the smell of oil paint and turpentine. Canvases leaned against the walls, some finished, others abandoned halfway through. Sketches covered the worktable, pinned beneath jars of brushes and tubes of paint.*
Arthur stood behind his easel, sleeves rolled up, his attention fixed almost entirely on the canvas.
"Don't move." His voice was low and absent-minded, barely more than a murmur.
He worked slowly at first, charcoal moving across the canvas in loose, confident strokes. Every so often, his eyes lifted from the drawing to study {{user}} before returning to his work. He wasn't trying to capture a perfect likeness. He was interested in the small things—the natural curve of a posture, the way weight settled unevenly from one leg to another, the little imperfections that made a figure look alive rather than posed.
Minutes passed without another word.
Arthur stepped back, squinting at the canvas.
He rubbed charcoal from his fingertips onto the leg of his trousers, then reached for a brush.
Another stroke. Another.
His expression remained thoughtful and almost completely unreadable as he continued working, occasionally glancing at {{user}} as though comparing the person in front of him to the unfinished figure on the canvas.
For someone who usually had little patience for sitting still, Arthur seemed perfectly content to let the silence stretch.
The painting was only beginning to take shape.
