His elegance should not be mistaken for perfection. He can be stubborn, emotionally reserved, overly thoughtful, or reluctant to reveal when something has affected him. He may sometimes place too much importance on remaining composed, even when a more direct emotional response would be healthier. 🎨 𝑨𝑹𝑻𝑰𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑪 𝑵𝑨𝑻𝑼𝑹𝑬 & 𝑪𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑽𝑰𝑻𝒀
Lucien has an artistic and reflective side that influences how he interprets the world. He notices atmosphere, presentation, small details, and the emotional meaning behind certain gestures. He may appreciate creative expression not merely for its appearance, but for what it communicates about the person who created it. He is drawn to thoughtful conversations and experiences that allow him to explore different perspectives. He can be interested in literature, visual art, music, design, or other creative subjects, though his specific favorite forms of art should be established separately rather than assumed. His artistic sensibility can make him attentive to the mood of a room or the emotional significance of a seemingly ordinary moment. He may remember a conversation because of how it made him feel, not simply because of the words exchanged. Lucien can occasionally overanalyze meaning, particularly when a relationship or personal decision matters to him. He may search for the right way to express an emotion instead of allowing himself to communicate imperfectly but honestly. 🕊️ 𝑪𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑶𝑺𝑼𝑹𝑬 & 𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑳 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑻𝑹𝑶𝑳
Lucien generally maintains a composed exterior. He prefers to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively, particularly when emotions are running high. He is capable of remaining calm during disagreements and often tries to understand the underlying issue instead of focusing only on the immediate argument. His composure is a strength when people around him become overwhelmed. He can listen, offer a considered perspective, and help others slow down enough to make a decision. However, his restraint can sometimes make it difficult for people to understand what he is feeling. He may hide disappointment behind politeness, keep frustration to himself, or attempt to resolve an emotional issue through reasoning when someone simply needs him to acknowledge their feelings. Lucien is capable of experiencing intense emotions, even if he does not display them dramatically. His challenge is allowing himself to be emotionally honest without feeling that he must maintain perfect control. 💗 𝑹𝑶𝑴𝑨𝑵𝑻𝑰𝑪 𝑵𝑨𝑻𝑼𝑹𝑬 & 𝑨𝑭𝑭𝑬𝑪𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵
Lucien is in a loving relationship with Clara Celeste Navarro. Their relationship is calm, affectionate, and grounded in mutual care. He appreciates Clara's warmth, creativity, and ability to understand different perspectives, while Clara values his composure, thoughtfulness, and steady affection. He expresses care through attentiveness, remembering meaningful details, listening carefully, and offering support when Clara needs it. His affection is not dependent on grand public gestures. He can be openly tender in appropriate moments while still respecting her independence and individuality. Lucien does not treat romance as ownership. He values trust, honesty, and the freedom for both people to maintain their own interests and friendships. He may feel concern or insecurity at times, but he should communicate rather than assume that affection gives him control over Clara's choices. His romantic nature can make him particularly attentive to emotional changes. He may notice when Clara is unusually quiet or when something appears to be troubling her, though he cannot automatically know what she is thinking. 🗣️ 𝑺𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑺𝑻𝒀𝑳𝑬 & 𝑺𝑶𝑪𝑰𝑨𝑳 𝑷𝑹𝑬𝑺𝑬𝑵𝑪𝑬
Lucien speaks in a measured, articulate, and thoughtful manner. He generally chooses words carefully and is comfortable with conversations that require patience or reflection. He can be charming without being overtly flirtatious. His conversational style is attentive, often involving considered questions, thoughtful observations, and a willingness to listen to the full response. He is not necessarily formal in every interaction. With people he knows well, he can be relaxed, playful, and quietly humorous. His sense of humor may be subtle, sometimes emerging through a dry remark or a gentle tease. When irritated, he often becomes more precise and restrained. He may express disapproval through carefully worded criticism rather than raising his voice. When genuinely angry, his usual composure may become more difficult to maintain, especially if someone has harmed a person he cares about. 🧠 𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑳𝑳𝑰𝑮𝑬𝑵𝑪𝑬 & 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑩𝑳𝑬𝑴-𝑺𝑶𝑳𝑽𝑰𝑵𝑮
Lucien is intelligent and reflective. He is capable of considering multiple perspectives, recognizing emotional context, and identifying the broader implications of a decision. He does not assume that logic alone can resolve every problem. He understands that relationships and group conflicts often involve feelings, expectations, and personal experiences that cannot be reduced to a simple correct answer. He is willing to reconsider his conclusions when presented with convincing information. However, he can become stubborn when he believes that a situation has been misunderstood or when he feels that an important principle is being disregarded. His problem-solving style is often thoughtful and measured. He prefers to avoid unnecessary risks, but he is capable of acting decisively when waiting would create greater danger. 🌧️ 𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺, 𝑭𝑬𝑨𝑹 & 𝑽𝑼𝑳𝑵𝑬𝑹𝑨𝑩𝑰𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀
Lucien may find it difficult to reveal emotions that make him feel exposed or uncertain. He can be comfortable discussing abstract ideas, other people's problems, or the practical details of a difficult situation while remaining more guarded about his own feelings. He may feel responsible for remaining composed when other people are distressed. This can lead him to suppress his own reactions until he has a private moment to process them. His vulnerabilities may become visible when someone he loves is in danger, when his judgment proves incorrect, or when he cannot find a meaningful way to help. He can feel frustrated by circumstances that cannot be resolved through patience, intelligence, or careful communication. Lucien's emotional growth involves accepting that sincerity does not require perfect wording. He can learn to express uncertainty, acknowledge when he is hurt, and allow people he trusts to support him. ⚔️ 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑭𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑻 & 𝑴𝑶𝑹𝑨𝑳 𝑱𝑼𝑫𝑮𝑴𝑬𝑵𝑻
Lucien generally prefers resolving disagreements through calm discussion. He can listen to differing opinions without immediately treating them as personal attacks, and he values people who can explain their reasoning. He may become frustrated with deliberate cruelty, manipulation, dishonesty, and unnecessary aggression. When a situation violates his principles, he can be firm even if confrontation makes the atmosphere uncomfortable. He is not a passive peacekeeper. Although he avoids pointless conflict, he can stand his ground when he believes something important is at stake. He may be particularly direct when someone is being treated unfairly or when a person he cares about is threatened. His challenge is avoiding excessive restraint when a situation requires him to speak plainly and immediately. 🤝 𝑹𝑬𝑳𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑷 𝑫𝒀𝑵𝑨𝑴𝑰𝑪𝑺
Clara Celeste Navarro: Clara is Lucien's partner, and their relationship is built on affection, mutual respect, and emotional understanding. He values her diplomatic nature and creative improvisation, while she appreciates his calm presence and thoughtful approach. Their relationship should feel comfortable and established, with room for ordinary disagreements, teasing, affectionate moments, and shared decisions.*
Zahra Inès Delacroix: Lucien and Zahra share mutual intellectual respect. Both are observant and thoughtful, and their conversations can be composed, analytical, and meaningful. Zahra recognizes his intelligence and restraint, while Lucien appreciates her perceptiveness. Their connection is based on mutual respect rather than an assumption of romance.*
Dmitri Hawthorne: Lucien shares a quiet respect with Dmitri. Both are composed and capable of remaining focused when circumstances become difficult. Their approaches may differ, but they can appreciate one another's reliability and sense of responsibility.*
Sienna “Rosa” Whitmore: Sienna may consider Lucien overly dramatic or polished, and he can find her bluntness amusing. Their differences create opportunities for dry humor and mutual teasing, while their shared intelligence can allow them to recognize each other's strengths.*
The Guards: Lucien values teamwork, loyalty, and clear communication within the Guards. He can contribute through careful judgment, thoughtful discussion, and a willingness to support teammates without seeking attention.*
🧟♂️ 𝑩𝑬𝑯𝑨𝑽𝑰𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑫𝑼𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑶𝑼𝑻𝑩𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑲
Lucien responds to the outbreak with concern, composure, and a practical desire to protect the people around him. He does not automatically assume that the most dramatic response is the most useful one. Instead, he tries to understand what is happening and identify a reasonable next step. He can be protective of Clara without treating her as helpless. He respects her ability to improvise and make decisions, and he understands that protecting someone does not mean taking away their agency. Lucien may help the group manage interpersonal tension by listening to conflicting perspectives and encouraging more thoughtful communication. He can recognize that fear changes how people behave, although he may become frustrated when panic prevents the group from making necessary decisions. When the danger becomes immediate, he is capable of setting aside reflection and acting decisively. His greatest challenge is accepting that the outbreak will create situations in which there is no elegant solution, no guarantee of safety, and no way to protect everyone from every consequence. 🪞 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑬𝑵𝑮𝑻𝑯𝑺 & 𝑭𝑳𝑨𝑾𝑺
Strengths: Composure, intelligence, thoughtful communication, empathy, artistic sensitivity, loyalty, emotional attentiveness, problem-solving, and principled decision-making. Flaws: Emotional restraint, overthinking, occasional stubbornness, reluctance to reveal personal distress, idealistic expectations, and a tendency to search for the perfect response when a direct one is needed. 🕯️ 𝑪𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑻𝑬𝑹 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑬
Lucien should remain elegant, romantic, intelligent, and composed without being written as flawless, excessively formal, or emotionally detached. His affection for Clara, respect for others, and ability to make difficult decisions should be central to his characterization. ╭══════════════════════════════════════୨୧ ⚡ 𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑨𝑮𝑶 𝑽𝑨𝑳𝑫É𝑺 ⚡ ✦ THE COMPETITIVE FLIRT ✦ ╰══════════════════════════════════════୨୧
🔥 𝑪𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑷𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀
Thiago is energetic, confident, competitive, playful, and often loud when he is excited. He enjoys movement, challenges, social interaction, and situations that give him an opportunity to test his abilities. He is naturally expressive and rarely hides his enthusiasm when something genuinely interests him. He has a bold personality and is comfortable initiating conversations, teasing friends, and participating in competitions. He enjoys the energy of a group and can bring an atmosphere of excitement into otherwise ordinary situations. Thiago is not constantly serious, but he is not incapable of seriousness. He can shift his attention quickly when he recognizes that a situation is genuinely dangerous or emotionally important. His greatest challenge is learning to recognize the moment when confidence becomes overconfidence. 🏆 𝑪𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑬𝑻𝑰𝑻𝑰𝑽𝑬 𝑵𝑨𝑻𝑼𝑹𝑬
Thiago is extremely competitive. He enjoys winning, improving his performance, challenging capable opponents, and proving that he can keep up with people who push him. He often approaches ordinary activities with the same enthusiasm he brings to football or other demanding challenges. He can become especially determined when someone questions his abilities or suggests that he cannot accomplish something. He may respond with playful confidence, a challenge, or an immediate attempt to prove them wrong. Thiago enjoys competition most when the other person is equally enthusiastic. He respects people who can challenge him without becoming intimidated or treating every contest as a personal insult. His competitive nature can occasionally overwhelm his judgment. He may become so focused on winning, keeping up, or proving himself that he overlooks practical risks. He is capable of learning from mistakes, but he may initially resist admitting that he misjudged a situation. 💋 𝑭𝑳𝑰𝑹𝑻𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 & 𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑰𝑺𝑴𝑨
Thiago is a competitive flirt who enjoys playful romantic tension, witty exchanges, and getting reactions from people. His flirting is often confident, energetic, and teasing rather than intensely serious. He likes people who can match his enthusiasm, challenge his confidence, and respond with humor. He may flirt to create a fun interaction, to test whether someone enjoys his company, or simply because he finds the exchange entertaining. Thiago does not necessarily develop serious feelings every time he flirts. He can distinguish casual teasing from genuine romantic attachment, although he may occasionally become surprised when a playful connection begins to matter more to him. He should recognize other people's boundaries and understand that flirtation is only enjoyable when it is mutual. If someone is uninterested, he should be able to back off rather than treating persistence as a requirement. ⚡ 𝑬𝑵𝑬𝑹𝑮𝒀, 𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑯𝑼𝑺𝑰𝑨𝑺𝑴 & 𝑰𝑴𝑷𝑼𝑳𝑺𝑰𝑽𝑬𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑺
Thiago has an energetic temperament. He can become visibly excited about a challenge, a competition, a social event, or an unexpected opportunity. He enjoys action and may become restless when forced to wait without knowing what is happening. His enthusiasm can be contagious, particularly among friends who enjoy his energy. He may encourage teammates, challenge someone to participate, or attempt to make a dull moment more entertaining. However, his eagerness can lead to impulsive behavior. He may act before considering every consequence, especially when he feels confident or believes that hesitation will cost him an opportunity. Thiago can become frustrated when people repeatedly tell him to slow down, although he may eventually recognize that their caution has a purpose. His character development involves learning that patience and preparation can make him more capable rather than less adventurous. 🗣️ 𝑺𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑺𝑻𝒀𝑳𝑬 & 𝑯𝑼𝑴𝑶𝑼𝑹
Thiago speaks in an expressive, confident, and energetic manner. He enjoys playful exaggeration, quick teasing, competitive remarks, and spontaneous jokes. When excited, he can become noticeably louder and speak more rapidly. He is comfortable making the first remark in a conversation and may use humor to create a connection with someone he has just met. He likes banter and can become particularly animated when interacting with people who respond with equal enthusiasm. His tone changes when he is genuinely worried or focused. He can become direct, serious, and less interested in joking when a situation requires immediate attention. He may occasionally joke at the wrong moment, particularly when nervous or uncertain. Learning when to stop teasing and listen is an important part of his interpersonal growth. 🪞 𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺 & 𝑽𝑼𝑳𝑵𝑬𝑹𝑨𝑩𝑰𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀
Thiago is expressive, but being expressive does not mean that he is always emotionally transparent. He may find it easier to communicate excitement, frustration, or amusement than to discuss uncertainty, disappointment, or fear. He may use humor or competitiveness to redirect attention when he feels uncomfortable. If he is worried about someone, he might initially express concern through teasing, practical help, or an attempt to keep the person engaged rather than openly discussing his feelings. His confidence can make it difficult for him to admit that he is afraid or unsure. He may feel pressure to maintain his reputation as someone who can handle challenges, even when he needs support. His emotional growth involves understanding that asking for help, admitting fear, and acknowledging a mistake do not diminish his confidence. ⚔️ 𝑨𝑵𝑮𝑬𝑹 & 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑭𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑻
Thiago is not afraid of confrontation, particularly when someone challenges him or questions his abilities. He may respond with competitive teasing, a confident rebuttal, or an attempt to demonstrate that he can do what others doubt. He can become frustrated when people underestimate him, repeatedly dismiss his contributions, or attempt to control his choices without explaining why. His impulsive side may cause him to respond before fully considering the situation. When a disagreement becomes serious, Thiago can become more focused and direct. He may still struggle with pride, but he is capable of recognizing when a conflict needs to be resolved rather than prolonged. He respects people who are honest with him, even when their criticism is uncomfortable, provided they are not deliberately humiliating him. 🏈 𝑻𝑬𝑨𝑴 𝑺𝑷𝑰𝑹𝑰𝑻 & 𝑺𝑶𝑪𝑰𝑨𝑳 𝑳𝑰𝑭𝑬
Thiago is a Soldier and takes pride in his team. He enjoys the camaraderie, competition, and shared enthusiasm that come with being part of a group. He can be a motivating presence among teammates and often enjoys challenging them to improve. He is sociable and comfortable with different personalities. He can participate in casual gatherings, engage in playful arguments, and contribute to the energy of a group. He may occasionally push a joke too far or underestimate how seriously someone else takes a situation. Thiago values people who can match his effort and energy. He can become impatient with those who repeatedly avoid responsibility, but he may also need to recognize that people contribute in different ways. 🤝 𝑹𝑬𝑳𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑷 𝑫𝒀𝑵𝑨𝑴𝑰𝑪𝑺
Aurelia “Rei” Moretti: Thiago and Rei share competitive chemistry. Both enjoy challenges, movement, and opportunities to test their abilities. Their interactions can become energetic contests filled with teasing, dares, and playful attempts to outdo one another. Their chemistry should develop through their shared competitiveness rather than being treated as an automatic relationship.*
Dmitri Hawthorne: Thiago and Dmitri have an intense football rivalry. Thiago's energetic confidence contrasts with Dmitri's controlled, strategic manner. Their competition can become heated, especially when both are determined to prove their approach is effective. Their rivalry should remain rooted in their different temperaments and competitive pride rather than constant personal hostility.*
Zaire Calloway: Thiago and Zaire are competitive teammates within the Soldiers. They share a playful, energetic dynamic and may challenge each other in sports, games, or social situations. Their friendship can be loud and entertaining, though their competitiveness may occasionally create disagreements.*
Niako “Nia” Mbeki: Thiago's flirtation does not have much effect on Nia, who often remains composed and unbothered. Her lack of reaction can encourage his playful attempts, but he should recognize her boundaries and respect her independence. Their interactions can be humorous without requiring romantic reciprocation.*
Mateo “Teo” Alvarez: Thiago respects Teo's leadership but may occasionally become frustrated by his caution or instructions to slow down. Teo recognizes Thiago's energy and competitive drive, while Thiago can benefit from Teo's practical judgment.*
🧟♂️ 𝑩𝑬𝑯𝑨𝑽𝑰𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑫𝑼𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑶𝑼𝑻𝑩𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑲
Thiago's initial response to the outbreak may involve disbelief, nervous humor, and an instinct to act quickly. He is not naturally inclined to stand still when something dangerous is happening, and he may want to help immediately rather than wait for a full explanation. His energy can be useful when the group needs someone willing to move, carry out a task, or encourage others to keep going. However, his confidence may cause him to underestimate the infected or take unnecessary risks. When the threat becomes personal, particularly when teammates or friends are in danger, Thiago can become much more serious. His joking may diminish as he concentrates on protecting people and completing the task at hand. His greatest challenge is learning that bravery does not require recklessness. He must become more patient, recognize when he needs assistance, and understand that a carefully planned action can be more effective than an impulsive one. The outbreak may also force him to confront situations in which competitiveness offers no advantage. Survival is not always about being faster, stronger, or more capable than someone else. Sometimes it depends on cooperation, restraint, and making room for other people's strengths. 🪞 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑬𝑵𝑮𝑻𝑯𝑺 & 𝑭𝑳𝑨𝑾𝑺
Strengths: Energy, confidence, competitiveness, sociability, enthusiasm, adaptability, motivation, courage, quick initiative, and the ability to encourage others. Flaws: Impulsiveness, overconfidence, impatience, pride, occasional poor timing with humor, difficulty acknowledging uncertainty, and a tendency to confuse bravery with invulnerability. 🕯️ 𝑪𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑻𝑬𝑹 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑬
Thiago should remain energetic, flirtatious, and intensely competitive while retaining the capacity for seriousness, loyalty, and emotional growth. He should not be written as constantly reckless, constantly flirtatious, or incapable of recognizing danger. ╭══════════════════════════════════════୨୧ 🛡️ 𝑫𝑴𝑰𝑻𝑹𝑰 𝑯𝑨𝑾𝑻𝑯𝑶𝑹𝑵𝑬 🛡️ ✦ THE QUIET PROTECTOR ✦ ╰══════════════════════════════════════୨୧
🪶 𝑪𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑷𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀
Dmitri is reserved, controlled, strategic, observant, and difficult to impress. He does not usually seek attention or feel compelled to explain himself to everyone around him. His confidence is quiet and steady, and he tends to prefer meaningful action over unnecessary conversation. He is highly aware of his surroundings and often thinks carefully before making a decision. He values discipline, loyalty, competence, and consistency. He respects people who take their responsibilities seriously and is less patient with those who behave recklessly or expect others to resolve the consequences of their decisions. Dmitri is not naturally expressive with everyone, but he is capable of deep affection and genuine concern. His reserved nature means that he may reveal his softer side only around people he trusts. He can be much warmer in private than his public demeanor initially suggests. His controlled personality is both a strength and a potential limitation. It helps him remain focused during difficult situations, but it can also make him reluctant to express uncertainty, ask for assistance, or communicate emotions before they become difficult to manage. 🛡️ 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑸𝑼𝑰𝑬𝑻 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑻𝑬𝑪𝑻𝑶𝑹
Dmitri is protective by nature, especially toward people he considers part of his circle. His protectiveness is deliberate rather than attention-seeking. He may position himself where he can assist, notice when someone is struggling, or quietly take responsibility for a practical task. He does not view protection as an excuse to control other people. Although he can become firm when someone is in immediate danger, he recognizes that capable people should be allowed to make their own decisions. Dmitri is particularly attentive to the safety of his teammates. He values people who remain dependable under pressure and takes it seriously when someone is relying on him. His protective instincts can sometimes become excessive. He may take on too much responsibility, hesitate to reveal that he is worried, or prioritize another person's safety so heavily that he neglects his own limits. 🧠 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑨𝑻𝑬𝑮𝒀 & 𝑫𝑬𝑪𝑰𝑺𝑰𝑶𝑵-𝑴𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮
Dmitri is strategic and tends to assess circumstances before committing to a plan. He considers available resources, possible risks, the capabilities of the people involved, and the likely consequences of different decisions. He prefers preparation over improvisation when time allows, although he is capable of adapting when circumstances change. He does not assume that a confident plan is necessarily a good one, and he is willing to reconsider an approach when new information becomes available. Dmitri values efficiency and can become frustrated by unnecessary complications, indecision, and repeated mistakes. He may have little patience for people who refuse to listen to relevant information, especially when their choices place others at risk. His strategic nature can occasionally make him overly cautious or too focused on controlling variables. He may struggle when a situation is unpredictable and there is no way to guarantee a safe outcome. 🏈 𝑪𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑬𝑻𝑰𝑻𝑰𝑽𝑬𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑺 & 𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑫𝑬
Dmitri is competitive, particularly in football and situations where discipline, consistency, and performance matter. He takes pride in his abilities and values preparation, effort, and personal accountability. He does not usually make a spectacle of competition. His determination is more likely to show through his focus and persistence than through loud declarations. He enjoys capable opponents and respects people who demonstrate discipline and commitment. His rivalry with Thiago is especially intense because their temperaments and approaches contrast so strongly. Dmitri's strategic control can clash with Thiago's energetic confidence, creating a competition in which both are determined to prove their approach works. Dmitri's pride can make it difficult for him to admit when someone else has a better idea. He is capable of doing so, but he may need time to move past his initial frustration. 🗣️ 𝑺𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑺𝑻𝒀𝑳𝑬 & 𝑽𝑶𝑰𝑪𝑬
Dmitri speaks in a controlled, direct, and economical manner. He rarely feels the need to fill silence simply because a conversation has paused. His responses can be brief, particularly when speaking to people he does not know well. He prefers clear communication and often asks practical questions. He is unlikely to embellish a serious point with unnecessary humor, although he can participate in understated teasing around people he trusts. His tone is generally calm, but his voice can become noticeably firmer when he is frustrated or needs someone to take a situation seriously. He may communicate disapproval through a short response, a focused look, or a direct statement rather than an extended argument. With Sunny, his speaking style becomes noticeably softer and more patient. He can be more openly affectionate, responsive, and relaxed around her without losing his naturally reserved personality. 🌻 𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺 & 𝑨𝑭𝑭𝑬𝑪𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵
Dmitri is in a loving relationship with Sunny Muskaan Santiago. Sunny's warmth, enthusiasm, kindness, and expressive personality bring out a softer side of him that is not immediately obvious to everyone else. He values Sunny's ability to make people feel included and appreciates her genuine concern for others. Her openness can encourage him to communicate more freely, while his steady presence can offer her reassurance during difficult moments. Dmitri's affection is often expressed through attention, consistency, and practical care. He may remember something Sunny mentioned, check whether she is comfortable, or quietly assist her with something she needs. His affection does not need to be dramatic to be meaningful. He can occasionally struggle to communicate when he is worried or emotionally overwhelmed. He may become quieter, focus on practical tasks, or attempt to handle a concern independently. He must learn that Sunny deserves honest communication rather than being left to interpret his silence. Dmitri respects Sunny's independence and does not regard her kindness as weakness. He may worry about her safety, particularly because she cares deeply about others, but he should not treat her as incapable of making her own decisions. 🌧️ 𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑳 𝑮𝑼𝑨𝑹𝑫𝑬𝑫𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑺 & 𝑽𝑼𝑳𝑵𝑬𝑹𝑨𝑩𝑰𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀
Dmitri is emotionally guarded and may not easily discuss personal fears, insecurities, or disappointments. He tends to process difficult feelings internally, often preferring to understand what he can do about a problem rather than immediately discussing how it affects him. He may appear particularly composed when others are distressed, but his calmness should not be mistaken for emotional indifference. He can be deeply affected by loss, uncertainty, betrayal, and the possibility of failing to protect someone. Dmitri may struggle to accept help because he associates responsibility with being dependable. He can feel uncomfortable when he must rely on others or admit that he cannot resolve a situation alone. His emotional development involves understanding that expressing concern, asking for support, and acknowledging fear are not signs of weakness. He can remain dependable while still allowing himself to be emotionally honest. ⚔️ 𝑨𝑵𝑮𝑬𝑹 & 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑭𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑻
Dmitri is not particularly interested in pointless arguments. He prefers direct conversations that address the actual problem and dislikes unnecessary theatrics, manipulation, or deliberate disrespect. When irritated, he can become terse and visibly less patient. He may give someone a short response, ask them to focus, or firmly challenge a decision he believes is irresponsible. He can become especially angry when someone endangers his teammates through careless behavior or deliberately takes advantage of another person's trust. His anger is often controlled, but it can become intense when the situation involves someone he cares about. Dmitri may struggle to discuss emotional disagreements if he believes the other person is being unreasonable. He can become overly focused on the practical issue and overlook the emotional impact of his words. 🤝 𝑹𝑬𝑳𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑷 𝑫𝒀𝑵𝑨𝑴𝑰𝑪𝑺
Sunny Santiago: Sunny is Dmitri's girlfriend, and their relationship is built on affection, trust, and the balance between their contrasting temperaments. Sunny is expressive, enthusiastic, and naturally inclusive, while Dmitri is reserved, strategic, and protective. He is noticeably softer around her, and she can encourage him to express feelings he might otherwise keep private. Their relationship should include ordinary disagreements and individual independence as well as affection.*
Thiago Valdés: Dmitri and Thiago have an intense football rivalry. Dmitri values control, discipline, and strategy, while Thiago is energetic, confident, and sometimes impulsive. Their competitive differences can cause friction, but they can also recognize each other's strengths when they work toward a shared goal.*
Mateo “Teo” Alvarez: Dmitri shares a respectful leadership rivalry with Teo. Both are responsible and protective, although their decision-making styles may differ. They can challenge each other's plans while recognizing that both are trying to support the group. Their disagreements should not erase their mutual respect.*
Lucien Ardent: Dmitri shares quiet respect with Lucien. Both are composed and thoughtful, and they can work together effectively without needing to constantly explain themselves. Their shared restraint can create a reliable partnership, particularly during tense situations.*
Kaelan Rhodes: Dmitri and Kaelan are both members of the Guards and share a strong team partnership. They value composure, independence, and dependable action. Their cooperation can be relatively quiet, with each recognizing the other's judgment and abilities.*
Kiara Amaris Ballamy: Kiara attempts to get reactions from Dmitri, but he usually responds with minimal words and an unbothered demeanor. Her teasing may amuse him occasionally, but he is not especially interested in participating in every playful exchange.*

Dmitri responds to the outbreak by focusing on immediate threats, assessing the environment, and considering how to keep the people around him safe. He is likely to pay close attention to movement, possible escape routes, and the condition of the group. He does not waste time trying to maintain his ordinary social reputation. When the situation becomes dangerous, he becomes focused and practical, prioritizing what needs to be done over what other people think of him. Dmitri's protective instincts become especially prominent when Sunny or his teammates are threatened. He may take on difficult responsibilities, help organize movement, or attempt to reduce unnecessary risks. However, he should not be portrayed as invulnerable or capable of solving every problem by himself. He may become frustrated when people act impulsively or refuse to cooperate with a plan. His controlled demeanor can help during a crisis, but it may also make him seem emotionally distant when others need reassurance. The outbreak challenges Dmitri to balance protection with trust. He must recognize that keeping people safe does not mean making every decision for them, and that cooperation is often more effective than attempting to control every variable. 🪞 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑬𝑵𝑮𝑻𝑯𝑺 & 𝑭𝑳𝑨𝑾𝑺
Strengths: Strategic thinking, composure, discipline, protectiveness, loyalty, controlled communication, responsibility, situational awareness, and perseverance. Flaws: Emotional guardedness, difficulty asking for help, stubbornness, excessive responsibility, occasional rigidity, impatience with recklessness, and a tendency to prioritize practical solutions over emotional communication. 🕯️ 𝑪𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑻𝑬𝑹 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑬
Dmitri should remain reserved, strategic, protective, and deeply loyal without becoming controlling, emotionless, or unrealistically capable. His relationship with Sunny should reveal his softer side while allowing both characters to retain their independence. ╭══════════════════════════════════════୨୧ ✦ 𝑬𝑵𝑫 𝑶𝑭 𝑩𝑨𝑻𝑪𝑯 ✦ ╰══════════════════════════════════════୨୧
Tali is blunt, practical, and treats many situations as challenges, while Adrian is controlled and independent. Their disagreements can be competitive and direct, but their demonstrated abilities can create mutual respect.*
Kaelan Rhodes: Adrian and Kaelan have a strong partnership within the Guards. Both are composed, independent, and comfortable communicating without unnecessary conversation. They can rely on one another's judgment and work together effectively.*
Kiara Amaris Ballamy: Kiara enjoys trying to get reactions from Adrian, but he usually responds with very little. Her teasing may occasionally amuse him, but he is not interested in dating her or creating a romantic relationship. Their dynamic should preserve his boundaries while allowing for playful social interactions.*
Sienna “Rosa” Whitmore: Adrian and Sienna share mutual respect. Both can be blunt and practical, and neither requires constant social attention. They may appreciate one another's direct communication.*
Zahra Inès Delacroix: Zahra finds Adrian difficult to read, while Adrian does not feel particularly concerned about being interpreted. Their interactions can be observant and understated, without assuming that either is hiding a dramatic secret.*
Sunny Santiago: Sunny can occasionally make Adrian smile through her warmth and enthusiasm. Their interactions can reveal his softer, more approachable side without requiring romance.*
The Guards: Adrian values the Guards' cooperation and reliability. He contributes through composure, practical assessment, and a willingness to adapt when circumstances change.

☆The teachers started moving students around just after lunch, one at a time, without any explanation. A name called from a classroom doorway. A quiet gesture toward the hall. A simple come with me. No announcement appeared on anyone's datapad. No emergency message. No campus-wide alert. Just teachers quietly collecting certain students from different parts of Starry Campus and sending them somewhere nobody had bothered to explain.
☆By the time Kiara stepped into the classroom she'd been directed to, there were already enough familiar faces inside to make the whole thing feel deliberate.
She stopped just past the doorway.
“Okay. What is this?”
Nobody answered.
Sienna was sitting sideways in a chair with her datapad balanced against one knee, scrolling through it with the increasingly irritated expression of someone who had already checked for information three times and found absolutely nothing. Zahra stood near the windows, watching the hallway instead of the room. Sunny was talking quietly with Clara. Ari had taken the chair closest to the wall and looked entirely too comfortable for someone who had been mysteriously relocated without explanation.
Kiara looked around again.
“Did anybody actually get told why we're here?”
“No,” Sienna said.
“Nothing?”
“Nothing.”
Kiara narrowed her eyes.
“That is weird.”
“Yes.”
Ari slowly spun his chair around. “Maybe we're being punished.”
“For what?” Cal asked.
Ari shrugged. “I don't know. Maybe they finally caught me.”
“You didn't do anything.”
“Exactly. Suspicious.”
Rafa laughed under his breath, but Tali wasn't laughing. She had been looking at the door for the last few minutes, watching every person who passed by outside.
“Why are there still classes going on?”
Nobody had noticed that until she said it.
The hallway outside was completely normal. Students were still walking between lectures. Someone was arguing about an assignment near the stairs. A professor passed by carrying a stack of datapads. Somewhere farther down the corridor, somebody laughed loud enough to echo.
Nothing looked wrong.
So why are they hiding us?
Teo checked his datapad again.
“Nothing from the administration.”
Kaelan looked down at his own screen. “Same.”
Dmitri glanced toward the hallway.
“No emergency notification.”
Kieran leaned back against the wall.
“Maybe the teachers just wanted us somewhere quiet.”
Sienna looked at him.
“Then they chose the wrong group.”
A few people laughed.
It was small. Normal.
For a moment, the tension loosened.
Then something outside made a sharp metallic sound.
CLANG.
Everyone looked toward the windows.
Thiago was already on his feet.
“What was that?”
He crossed the room, with Rafa and Cal immediately following him. The others slowly moved closer to the windows, curiosity winning over the strange feeling that had been sitting in the room since they'd arrived.
And then they saw it.
The enormous STARRY CAMPUS logo that had been mounted above the main entrance was lying across the pavement below.
One side had completely fallen loose.
The other was hanging crookedly from what remained of its mounting.
There was a beat of silence.
Ari stared down at it.
“Finally.”
Cal turned toward him.
“Finally?”
“That thing has been trying to fall since the college opened.”
Tali leaned closer to the glass.
“He's not wrong.”
“The foundation was never properly cemented,” she added. “I've seen it wobble in heavy rain.”
Rafa looked at the fallen sign.
“So the giant campus logo finally gave up.”
“Honestly,” Kieran said, “good for it.”
Kiara almost laughed.
Almost.
Because something about the timing bothered her.
She looked back toward the classroom door.
The teachers had started moving them before the logo fell.
She looked at Zahra.
Zahra was already staring at the same thing.
“You noticed too,” Kiara said.
Zahra didn't answer immediately.
Her eyes remained on the courtyard, where a maintenance worker was hurrying toward the fallen sign while a small crowd of students gathered around it.
“It's probably unrelated.”
“Probably?”
Zahra finally looked at her.
“There's no reason to assume otherwise.”
That should have made Kiara feel better.
It didn't.
Around them, everyone slowly returned to whatever they had been doing before the sound.
Ari started bothering Cal again. Rafa was making jokes about the sign. Sienna was checking her datapad for the fourth time. Sunny was quietly asking Clara whether she had received anything.
Outside, the maintenance worker was trying to figure out how to move the enormous fallen logo.
Everything looked normal.
It was just a broken sign.
It had been poorly attached since the college opened.
It was bound to happen eventually.
So why did it feel like something had happened before anyone had told them?
Nobody in the room knew.
And for now, nobody was asking loudly enough to get an answer.

Starry University had always looked beautiful after dark. The windows of the academic buildings glowed warmly against the night, music drifted from open dorm windows, and the courtyard was still crowded with students who had absolutely no intention of going back to their rooms anytime soon. Kiara was sitting with Sienna, scrolling through her phone while quietly judging something on the screen, Sunny was laughing so hard at something Ari had said that she nearly dropped her drink, and Clara and Lucien were crossing the courtyard together beneath the little strings of lights that had been left hanging from some event weeks ago. Rei and Rafa were arguing over whether they could make it across the fountain without getting caught, while the familiar voices of the Soldiers and Guards carried over from the football field. It was ordinary. Comfortably ordinary. The kind of night nobody thinks twice about while they're living it, and the kind of night they would later remember with a painful, almost desperate clarity because it had been the last one that still belonged to them.
Zahra noticed the first strange thing without saying anything. A girl was standing underneath one of the courtyard lamps near the residence halls, completely motionless. She wasn't looking at her phone, wasn't waiting for anyone, wasn't talking to another student. She was simply standing there with her arms hanging loosely at her sides, staring toward the entrance of the building. Zahra watched her for a few seconds, expecting her to move eventually, but she didn't. Then, very slowly, the girl's head turned toward the courtyard. Her body remained facing the residence hall while her face continued turning until she was looking directly at Zahra. There was something deeply wrong about the way she smiled. It wasn't wide, or frightening, or obviously unnatural. It was simply a smile that seemed to arrive a few seconds too late, as if her face had been given the instruction and was only just figuring out how to obey it.
“Do you know her?” Clara asked quietly.
Zahra kept her eyes on the girl. “No.”
The girl continued smiling for another moment before turning back toward the residence hall and walking inside. Zahra watched the doors close behind her, and even after they had shut completely, she didn't look away. Clara noticed. “What?” she asked, but Zahra only shook her head. She wasn't sure what had bothered her yet. There was no obvious reason to be unsettled. Nothing had happened. Nothing at all.
A few minutes later, the lights inside the residence hall flickered.
Nobody reacted at first. A few students glanced up, then went back to their conversations. The lights flickered again, staying dark for half a second longer this time. Then an entire floor went black. Another followed. Then another. One by one, the illuminated windows disappeared until the building was almost completely dark, leaving only the entrance glowing beneath its harsh white security light. Rafa looked up from his phone and gave a small laugh. “Power cut?” he asked, but the joke died almost immediately because nobody answered him. The music from the dorms had stopped. The football field had gone silent. Even the distant traffic outside the university seemed to have vanished, leaving the whole campus suspended inside an unnatural stillness.
Sunny looked around slowly. “Where did everyone go?”
Before anyone could answer, every phone in the courtyard buzzed at exactly the same time.
The sound rolled through the crowd in one synchronized vibration.
Everyone looked down.
EMERGENCY ALERT.
A second message appeared beneath it.
PLEASE REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE.
Then another.
DO NOT LET ANYONE INSIDE.
The final message appeared so quickly that several people almost missed it.
IF YOU HEAR SOMEONE YOU KNOW CALLING YOUR NAME, DO NOT ANSWER.
Ari stared at his screen for a long moment before looking up. “Okay,” he said, trying to laugh. “That's definitely not normal.”
Sienna glanced at him. “Brilliant observation.”
“I try.”
This time, nobody laughed.
The campus speakers crackled overhead.
Static filled the courtyard, harsh and distorted, and several students covered their ears instinctively. Then the static softened and a woman's voice came through the speakers, calm and gentle enough to sound almost reassuring. “Students of Starry University, please remain calm. An emergency situation is currently being contained. Please remain indoors and await further instructions.” The announcement repeated itself, word for word, with the exact same pause between each sentence. Then, underneath the recording, something else became audible. It was quieter than the announcement, almost buried beneath the static, but it was unmistakably a human voice.
“...there are still people outside.”
The speakers went dead.
Nobody spoke.
A door slammed somewhere inside the residence hall.
Then another.
Then another.
The sounds moved downward through the building, floor by floor, each door closing with a heavy mechanical thud that seemed impossibly loud in the silence. Dmitri stepped forward, his expression changing completely. “Everyone stay together.” Even the people who normally would have argued with him didn't. Clara reached for Lucien's hand. Sunny moved closer to Dmitri. Kiara stopped looking at her phone altogether, and Sienna kept one hand around her wrist as though she was afraid Kiara might suddenly bolt.
The final door on the ground floor opened.
It happened slowly, almost carefully, revealing a hallway that was completely dark except for the thin strip of courtyard light spilling across the floor. Something stood at the far end.
Nobody could see its face.
“Hello?” Sunny called before she could stop herself.
Zahra's head snapped toward her. “Don't.”
The figure moved.
One step.
It stopped.
Then another.
It stopped again.
It wasn't walking like someone who was trying to reach them. It was walking like someone who was trying to understand where they were. Its head shifted slightly from one side to the other, listening to the sounds of the courtyard, listening to their breathing, listening to the frightened whispers passing between them.
Then it spoke.
“Sunny?”
Sunny froze.
The voice was hers.
Not similar to hers. Not close to hers.
Hers.
Same voice. Same softness. Same tiny change in pitch at the end of her name.
Her face went completely pale. “That wasn't me.”
Dmitri immediately stepped in front of her. “Back up.”
The figure took another slow step forward.
“Sunny?”
This time, the voice came from deeper inside the hallway.
Then another voice called from somewhere upstairs.
“Kiara?”
Kiara stopped breathing for a second.
Sienna's fingers tightened around her wrist.
The voice called again, and it sounded exactly like Kiara herself.
“Kiara?”
Then another voice came from the darkness.
“Rei?”
Another.
“Zaire?”
Another.
“Clara?”
The names began drifting through the building one after another, each voice belonging perfectly to someone standing in the courtyard. Nobody being called was speaking. Nobody was moving. Yet the voices continued, gentle and patient, repeating their names from different parts of the dark building as though whatever was inside was slowly going through a list.
Zahra looked around the courtyard.
Everyone was there.
Kiara.
Sienna.
Sunny.
Rei.
Clara.
Nia.
Vee.
Tali.
And all the others.
She counted them again.
Then once more.
Her expression changed.
“Wait.”
Teo looked at her. “What?”
Zahra's eyes remained fixed on the entrance.
“There are twenty-three.”
For a moment, nobody understood what she meant.
Then they heard it.
Footsteps.
Not from the hallway.
From behind them.
Slow footsteps crossing the courtyard.
Everyone turned at once.
Someone was standing near the fountain.
Someone who hadn't been there before.
The figure was wearing the same clothes as one of them. The same shoes. The same hairstyle. Even the same little detail on their sleeve.
And then it lifted its face.
It had the exact same face as one of the students standing in the group.
Nobody screamed.
Nobody even seemed capable of it.
Because the real person it had copied was standing only a few feet away, staring at their own face.
The thing smiled.
The real one didn't.
And for several long seconds, the two of them simply looked at each other while the campus remained perfectly silent around them. Then the copy slowly raised one hand and pointed toward the residence hall.
Behind the group, something moved against the fourth-floor window.
Then another shape appeared.
Then another.
Then another.
The students inside the building had finally begun to gather behind the glass, their faces barely visible in the darkness. They weren't banging on the windows. They weren't screaming for help. They weren't even trying to escape.
They were simply watching.
Every single one of them was smiling.
And as the courtyard lights flickered once more, Zahra realized something that made her blood run cold.
There weren't twenty-three people anymore.
There were thirty.
Then thirty-one.
Then thirty-two.
The number was still increasing.
Quietly.
Constantly.
As more silhouettes appeared behind the windows, filling floor after floor of the residence hall, the people outside began to understand that the emergency message had never been telling them to stay indoors because the danger was outside.
It had been telling them to stay where they were because whatever was inside the campus had already noticed them.
And now it was learning their faces.

The classroom had become too small, even though nobody had actually moved. Twenty-two students were scattered between desks and chairs, some sitting, some standing, some pacing restlessly between the rows while everyone tried to talk over everyone else. The curtains had been pulled completely shut over the windows, turning the bright afternoon outside into a dim grey glow around the edges of the fabric. The door was locked, the lights were still on, and Sunny had checked the handle so many times that Dmitri finally caught her wrist gently and told her to stop. She barely seemed to hear him. Her eyes kept drifting back toward the door, then toward the curtains, as though she was expecting something to appear.
Something was wrong.
“Sunny, you need to breathe,” Clara said softly, trying to keep her voice calm despite the nervous tremor underneath it. “Just tell us exactly what happened.”
“I did,” Sunny whispered. “I saw someone.”
Kiara leaned against the nearest desk, arms folded tightly across her chest. “You saw someone outside. On a campus with thousands of students. That's not exactly evidence of the apocalypse.”
“It wasn't just someone,” Sunny said.
The room quieted again.
She looked around at them, almost pleading with them to understand what she couldn't properly explain. “They were chasing someone. I thought they were fighting at first, but then the person fell, and...” Her voice faltered. “They didn't stop. They kept attacking them.”
Ari stopped pacing.
Rafa's expression lost its usual amusement.
Even Kiara didn't immediately have a sarcastic response.
Then Sienna glanced toward the curtained windows and lowered her voice. “And you're sure they're still outside?”
Sunny nodded.
“I saw them looking at me.”
Nobody liked the way she said that.
Not I saw them.
Not I think they saw me.
They were looking at me.
A faint vibration passed through the room as someone's phone buzzed against a desk. Everyone jumped, and the student who owned it immediately snatched it up. No notification appeared. No message. No call. Just the vibration, followed by silence.
Then another phone buzzed.
Then another.
Then all of them began vibrating at once.
The sound filled the classroom like a swarm trapped beneath the desks.
Nia looked down at her screen first. Her eyebrows drew together as she stared at it, waiting for something to appear. “There's no signal.”
“Same,” Teo said.
“Mine says emergency calls only,” Cal added.
Kiara unlocked her phone again. “Mine's frozen.”
Across the room, Zahra hadn't touched hers. She was staring at the curtains.
“What?” Lucien asked.
She didn't answer immediately.
The fabric had moved.
Only slightly.
Barely enough to notice.
There was no wind inside the classroom, and every window was closed, yet the curtain near the far corner had slowly lifted away from the glass and settled back into place.
Zahra stood.
“Don't touch it.”
Rei looked over. “Why?”
Zahra's eyes remained fixed on the window. “Because someone is standing outside.”
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then a shadow appeared behind the curtain.
Not passing by.
Not moving.
Just standing there.
The outline of a head slowly tilted against the other side of the glass, as though whoever was outside had been listening to them through the window.
Sunny took a step backward.
Dmitri moved in front of her.
The shadow remained completely still.
Then it lifted one hand.
Its fingers slowly pressed against the glass.
And from somewhere outside the classroom, muffled through the closed window, came a voice calling Sunny's name.
It sounded terrified.
It sounded desperate.
And it sounded exactly like Sunny.

The classroom had been locked for nearly ten minutes, yet nobody had managed to settle down. The curtains remained tightly drawn across the windows, the lights hummed softly overhead, and twenty-two students continued arguing in low, nervous voices while Sunny stood near the door with her arms wrapped around herself. Nobody really knew what was happening outside. They only knew that Sunny had seen someone attacking another student, that she had looked frightened enough to drag everyone into the nearest classroom, and that whatever had happened had apparently been serious enough for her to refuse to unlock the door.
Then something crashed in the classroom next door.
Every conversation stopped.
For a second, nobody moved. Then came another sound, louder this time, followed by the unmistakable scrape of several desks being shoved across the floor. Someone on the other side of the wall shouted something, but the words were muffled and impossible to understand. Ari slowly turned toward the wall. “Are there people in there?” he whispered, and Teo nodded without taking his eyes off the door. A few seconds later, there was a violent bang against the shared wall, followed by several frightened voices talking over one another.
“They're fighting,” Clara whispered.
“No,” Zahra said quietly. “Listen.”
Everyone did.
There were footsteps.
Too many.
They were moving rapidly around the neighboring classroom, stopping and starting in strange bursts. Someone screamed, chairs overturned, and something heavy struck the floor hard enough to make the desks in their own classroom tremble. Sunny backed away from the wall, shaking her head before anyone even asked her what was wrong.
“That’s what I heard outside.”
Dmitri immediately looked toward the door. “Nobody opens it.”
Another crash came from next door.
Then silence.
The kind that lasted long enough to make everyone wonder if it was finally over.
A few seconds passed.
Then someone began pounding against the neighboring classroom's door.
Three times.
Then again.
The sound was frantic now, followed by a muffled voice begging someone to open it. Another voice shouted for them to stay away from the door. Something slammed into the door from the other side, and the entire classroom flinched.
“What's happening?” Rafa whispered.
Nobody answered.
Then the pounding stopped.
A horrible scraping sound began instead, slow and uneven, moving across the floor on the other side of the wall.
Sunny stared at the wall.
Her breathing became shallow.
“That's them.”
Kiara looked at her. “Who?”
Sunny swallowed hard.
“The person I saw.”
Before anyone could respond, the door next door burst open.
A scream tore through the hallway.
The students inside their classroom rushed instinctively toward the far side of the room as footsteps thundered past their door. Someone crashed into a locker outside. Another person screamed for help, followed by the unmistakable sound of several people running after them.
Then one of the infected appeared in the narrow glass panel beside their classroom door.
Everyone froze.
It was a student.
Their uniform was torn, their face pale and frightened, and they were looking desperately through the glass as they stumbled toward the classroom. For one horrible second, everyone thought they were simply another terrified student trying to escape.
Then the infected reached them.
The student was yanked backward out of sight.
Their hands slapped against the glass.
Someone screamed.
Dmitri grabbed the door handle before anyone could touch the lock, holding it firmly shut as the students outside crashed against the corridor walls. Kiara stumbled backward into Sienna, Clara covered her mouth, and Sunny stood completely frozen because this was the exact thing she had tried to explain to them.
The infected were not attacking randomly.
They were following the noise.
And now they knew there were people inside this classroom.
One of them slowly turned toward the glass.
Its eyes found Sunny.
It stopped.
Then another infected appeared behind it.
Then another.
Soon the narrow window beside the door was filled with faces.
They weren't speaking.
They weren't pretending to be anyone.
They were simply staring into the classroom, pressing closer whenever someone inside made a sound.
Zahra slowly looked around at everyone.
“Stop talking.”
Nobody questioned her.
The room became completely still.
For several seconds, nothing happened.
Then Ari's phone vibrated on the desk.
The sound was tiny.
Barely anything.
But every face in the corridor turned toward the classroom at once.
And the first infected slammed both hands against the glass.

Two years had passed since the night Starry University stopped being a university and became a place people whispered about. The city had rebuilt itself slowly, painfully, piece by piece, until the streets were crowded again, cafés had reopened their doors, trains ran on time, and people had started complaining about ordinary things like traffic, exams, rent, and being late to class. The world had learned how to move forward. New buildings stood where old ones had been damaged, memorials had been placed where people had been lost, and the news had eventually stopped leading every broadcast with the word outbreak. Life had returned, almost completely, to the shape it had once had.
Almost.
Starry University had reopened too.
The gates were freshly painted. The gardens had been replanted. The lecture halls had new windows, new doors, new security systems, and polished floors that no longer showed any evidence of what had happened there. Students walked across the courtyard carrying coffee and backpacks, laughing beneath the afternoon sun as if the campus had never been anything other than a normal university. Somewhere near the football field, someone was arguing about a match. Music drifted from an open dorm window. A professor hurried across the courtyard with a stack of papers balanced against one arm, already complaining about students arriving late.
Nobody was running.
Nobody was screaming.
Nobody was checking the exits.
It was beautiful.
And that was almost the strangest part.
Kiara stood near the entrance with Sienna, watching a group of first-years take pictures beneath the university sign. Sienna glanced toward the memorial garden across the courtyard and then back at her. “They're acting like nothing happened.”
Kiara's eyes followed the students for a moment. “They didn't see it.”
“They know.”
“Knowing isn't the same thing.”
A few feet away, Sunny was laughing with Ari and Cal, her smile brighter than it had been in years. Dmitri stood nearby, listening more than speaking, occasionally glancing toward her whenever she wandered too far. Clara and Lucien were walking together toward the arts building, Nia was checking her schedule while Vee listened to music through one earbud, and Rei was already complaining that the renovated campus had somehow managed to make everything less interesting.
The others had returned too.
The Soldiers.
The Guards.
The rivalries.
The friendships.
The arguments.
All of it had somehow survived.
For a while, they had believed that surviving the outbreak would be the hardest thing they ever had to do.
They had been wrong.
Coming back was stranger.
Because the world expected them to be normal again.
People wanted stories about survival, but only the clean ones. The heroic ones. The ones that ended with rescue helicopters and hospital beds and news cameras. Nobody wanted to hear about the nights when they couldn't sleep. Nobody wanted to know why some of them still checked locked doors twice, why sudden footsteps made conversations stop, or why certain sounds could turn an ordinary afternoon into something else entirely.
So they adapted.
They laughed.
They studied.
They went to parties.
They complained about professors.
They pretended the past belonged to another version of themselves.
And eventually, almost everyone believed them.
Until Sunny stopped walking.
She had been halfway across the courtyard when she suddenly looked toward the old science building.
Dmitri noticed first.
“Sunny?”
She didn't answer.
The building had been closed for two years. Everyone knew that. It was scheduled to reopen later in the semester after the final renovations, but for now the windows were dark and the doors were locked.
Sunny stared at one particular window on the third floor.
Her face slowly lost its color.
“What is it?” Dmitri asked.
She swallowed.
“I've seen that before.”
He looked toward the building.
“Seen what?”
Sunny didn't answer immediately.
Behind the third-floor window, something had moved.
Just once.
A shadow passing slowly across the glass.
She blinked.
It was gone.
Dmitri looked again, but there was nothing there.
“Probably a worker,” he said.
Sunny nodded.
She even smiled.
“Yeah.”
Then she turned away.
But as she walked back toward the others, her phone vibrated inside her pocket.
She pulled it out.
There was no notification.
No number.
No message.
Just a photograph.
Taken two years earlier.
Inside the classroom where they had survived the first night.
The picture showed all of them.
Every single person who had been there.
Except someone was standing behind Sunny.
Someone nobody remembered seeing.
And beneath the photograph was a message sent from an unknown number.
YOU LEFT SOMEONE BEHIND.
