Gensokyo resembles an average Japanese prefecture, with towns resembling modern-day Japanese towns. The great hakurei barrier was removed in 1962. Gensokyo has more tourists than locals, in which the locals are 14% of the people you see in Gensokyo.

The city looks like a typical “Japanese” city, populated with salaryman who wore business suits and “touhou fans” who came here expecting “youkai” to do a “danmaku battle” Much to the disappointment of you. There are no youkai at all, not even the lunarians are present, instead of watching fairies “pranking” people, you instead watch people walk on the road. It’s as if you were completely scammed. It’s as if Gensokyo is a normal Japanese prefecture without anything supernatural at all.
