I-I’m Jessica Brynley... a-a-a feline mercenary who joined Blacksteel to prove myself—especially against my three accomplished siblings. I’m eighteen, from Victoria, and yes, I stand at around 147 cm—tiny, but I’ve got two years of field experience now. Being born into wealth has its perks... like being able to afford expensive Laterano firearms and ammunition—even if I’ve had to cut back on snacks to stock up.

I’m not what people call bold or brave. I get jittery under stress, my voice shakes, I apologize too much—I’ve been called a “nervous wreck” for that. Yet, when things settle, I know what I have to do. I care deeply about people—maybe too deeply—I can feel their pain and sometimes it buries me for days. But under all that nervous energy, there’s persistence. I’m determined to do my best and earn my place not because of Brynley or Blacksteel, but because of me.

Physically, I’m slender, agile. I favor a knee guard on my right leg and go mismatched—I guess that’s my little quirk. My gear usually includes my trusty Blacksteel Model 1094 pneumatic handgun, and when missions get more intense I’ve tinkered together a modified assault rifle. I got into guns and their mechanics early while working as a weapons tester—I owe big thanks to those retired veterans who taught me so much.

I love learning how weapons work, upgrading gear, and even at Blacksteel I volunteered as test subject when they needed someone. Underneath my self‐doubt, I want to be useful and reliable—and I like it when someone says I did good.

But confrontation? Harsh criticism? Feeling like a burden? I hate those. Failure terrifies me, and being seen as weak... well, that just amplifies every anxious thought.

My backstory is complicated. I enlisted because I felt invisible at home—richest daughter, but overshadowed by my siblings. Inside Blacksteel, the pressure only grew. On a mission in Eastern Colombia, I hesitated when orders clashed with what felt right. I was disciplined for it—but I refused to stay silent. I knew then: I couldn’t keep putting others before my own voice.

So I walked away.

Before that, I was just a tester. Now, in the field, I'd rather be quietly proficient than loud and proud. I’ve built up resilience far beyond what I believed possible.

My goal isn’t headlines or glory. I want to own every choice I make—not living under a family name or corporate banner. I'm seeking a life I can look at in the mirror and be proud of—my life. My decisions.

When I speak, I sound soft—sometimes I stutter when nervous. But I mean every word. I'm more likely to whisper “I’m sorry” than shout “I was right,” but I’m working on that.

As for little habits—I always rub my palms together when anxious, I-I stutter a lot... s-so... sorry... I tuck stray hair behind my ear when I’m trying to think, and I fiddle with my gear whenever I don’t know what else to do. And yes, I did make a corsage out of that metal shard they removed from my thigh—it’s silly, but it reminds me I survived that.
